Should Grandma Get Divorced? ObamaCare Says So
Pajamas Media ^ | March 27 | Tom Blumer

Much has been written about the legislation’s onerous taxes, including items large and small. One of the biggies is a new 3.8% hit on capital gains, dividends, investment income, and rental income. One relatively small but especially annoying item that betrays the control-freak nature of the bill alongside Congress’s breathtaking economic ignorance is its 10% excise tax on indoor tanning services. One tanning salon owner predicts that 1,000 salons will close within 12 months after the tax goes into effect on July 1. Didn’t somebody say in his January State of the Union address that “jobs must be our number-one focus in 2010″?

Beyond the paramount moral issues relating to the quality and availability of medical care, anyone who believes that ObamaCare will only affect high-income earners and a few isolated industries is in for a rude shock if the legislation is not successfully repealed in time. How rude? ObamaCare’s worst financial provisions have nothing to do with taxes, but instead relate to its subsidies. When they take full effect, their impact will dramatically advance each of three goals described above: income and wealth redistribution, control, and the long-term political power of the far left....

I’ve started to cut back, getting ready for the WAVE. It will be rough. Time to start the gardens in the backyard.

Working under the table will be the one way to get ahead. Or bartering your work. People will work hard to get money out of the system and keep it there. It is already a big portion of the economy and likely to grow with incentives like these. Pay with cash..it is cheaper. No records no taxes.

The tanning-bed tax is particularly bizarre, given recent research that shows increased vitamin D decreases cancer (amongst other benefits).

It won’t matter how angry people get over the new taxes. There will NEVER be free elections again. Count on it. We are living in a national socialist dictatorship.

And your daughters should remain unmarried, living at home until age 26, and bearing children that will be covered on the parents health insurance policy.

All free, of course, with no increase in premiums.

You are thinking from the perspective that the party currently controlling our nation actually cares about the health, safety and well-being of the citizens.

If this is the case, you are clearly mistaken.

I think this tanning bed tax was aimed at Alaska where there is no sunlight for months at a time and most people use a tanning bed.

Time to start the gardens in the backyard.

Wasn't there some stink about home gardens not long ago and them having to follow regulations or taxes or something? If not, then it's just around the corner. That home garden might have to be mushrooms in the basement away from prying eyes. Gee, and y'all thought grow lights were only for those creepy dudes down the block. Times, they are a-changin'.

The NEW 3.8% Medicaid tax on rental income will raise ALL rents at least 3.8%

How many citizens making less than 200K per year rent?

Taxes aren’t applied in a space black-hole void.
Rent’s going up......

I think we should rename it the White Tax.

It's a way to tax Whitey without mentioning white people.

To all

Almost all of FDR's New Deal taxation was on the backs of the poor, all the while claiming he was helping the poor.

This is SPECIFICALLY a tax on WHITE PEOPLE ONLY!

They need to hide their discrimination a little better!

Time to start the gardens in the backyard.

I'm sure they will figure out a way to count that as farming income.
