But there are other, more radical - and in my mind, common sense - cuts that could and should be made in the interest of getting our economy back into good health. Of course, some of these suggestions may not be popular. Some may actually make some heads explode…

And for us, one of the things that would turn our ship around would be to move dramatically toward energy independence.

Not the phony kind, where you promote wind farms and solar farms which only offset fuels in which we are already independent, but opening up our coastlines, opening up the Alaskan arctic for drilling, removing the legal prohibitions against oil shale, knocking down the legal barriers against coal-to-diesel plants.

We have so much oil offshore that it gurgles up through the ocean floor, and we are not allowed to touch it. We have as much oilshale as the Saudis have oil. Meanwhile we send, what, half a trillion dollars out of the country each year buying fuel? And deal with double-digit unemployment, and bankrupt state and federal treasuries, carmakers and homebuilders facing extinction, and so on. Energy independence means you aren’t spending half a trillion putting some other country’s people to work, but rather your own. And you’re not paying for some other country’s national budget, but your own.

Thats my firm belief. The enviro rank and file are cranks and luddites; their leadership are shills for OPEC. As are many of our key politicians.
