I too got the Census letter informing me that I would be getting a Census letter next week. The waste and futility of participating, as well as the perversion of the constitutional purpose of the Census has me down, but Scott Johnson over at Power Line and Mark Krikorian over at The Corner have a bright idea:

He answered: "He is an American, who, leaving behind him all his ancient prejudices and manners, receives new ones from the new mode of life he has embraced, the new government he obeys, and the new rank he holds. He has become an American by being received in the broad lap of our great Alma Mater. Here individuals of all races are melted into a new race of man, whose labors and posterity will one day cause great changes in the world. Americans are the western pilgrims."

Fully one-quarter of the space on this year's form is taken up with questions of race and ethnicity, which are clearly illegitimate and none of the government's business (despite the New York Times' assurances to the contrary on today's editorial page). So until we succeed in building the needed wall of separation between race and state, I have a proposal. ...We should answer Question 9 by checking the last option — "Some other race" — and writing in "American."
It's a truthful answer but at the same time is a way for ordinary citizens to express their rejection of unconstitutional racial classification schemes. In fact, "American" was the plurality ancestry selection for respondents to the 2000 census in four states and several hundred counties.
I’m going to list myself as a “Natural Born American Citizen”, unlike the Poseur in the White House.
Under Race, write in the Daytona 500.
You can bet someone, at some time, has answered that question in a similar manner(Daytona 500, Indianapolis 500, etc.).

‘American’ is a nationality. I’m putting “human” for race.
I think the message is to stop trying to divide us.
I shall submit the following:
I am an Un-Hyphenated American

I am an “American” too, so that is what I wrote in for #9. I was feeling generous, so I filled in the sex and ages of my family members in additional to number of people and “American”.
If they don’t understand, I’m sure that there is a lot more that they are confused with regarding the meaning and purpose of the Constitution!
As a person researching her genealogy, I find census information very valuable. I have found the year in which my ancestors came to this country and from what country they came from. I have seen old census records that just generally ask if the person is naturalized or an alien. They ask what language they speak at home. They ask color in many cases which helps me decide if I have the correct person or family. It’s a source of invaluable information and you are taking this away from future generations. It’s a part of history. They wouldn’t have to ask if a person is legal but just knowing where they are from is helpful in many ways. I wish they would expand their questions further. We aren’t allowed to see the information for 80 years so don’t worry about your privacy. You’ll be dead then.
If you believe that then you must still believe in Santa. Do you honestly think this this current government doesn't look at that information now?
