It doesn't matter how many years in-a-row one pays the mortgage on-time; because the government can just buy the home for a fraction of its worth any day, any time some official shouts, "Blight!" in yet another fruit of the Kelo decision.
Welcome to FR!
Last year in Washington, DC, the city government was trying to fight blight by taxing ALL vacant property and LAND at 10% of assessed value. That effort was fought more or less successfully to the point that they were going to overtax only “blighted” property. Then they came up with a new gimmick to tax non blighted vacant property at double the standard rate, require registration if it was vacant for one month, with a fee of $300 or more, with possible penalties and jail time. The City cited 3 cities that have some version of this law already. That one is still up in the air. Some consider ANY vacant property a blight since tax payers are not living it it. On the other hand, there are no children in school at $15,000 or more per year, no garbage pickup, etc. We really have to fight this shxq hard.
In New York, unlike most, if not all, other states, Supreme Court is the name for the initial (trial) court. Is this really a Supreme Court decision (as the article indicates)? Or is it a Court of Appeals decision?
Section I Article 7 of New York State Constitution:
“Private property shall not be taken for public use without just compensation.”
Oh well, taking private property for private use must be okay then. I don’t know Brooklyn at all, but if it is like the rest of the NYC area it is full of libs, who think a “living and breathing” constitution is just swell. I hope they realize this and don’t complain too much.
Good point.

Time to vote with your feet before they rob you of your property. If you have any wealth worth anything, LEAVE NEW YORK!
Brooklyn Supreme Court, a district court in most other states.
