If Okubo was paraphrased or quoted incorrectly, in her position as Director of Communications, she is perfectly capable of issuing a press release or holding a press conference to correct any misstatements. She didn’t and she hasn’t.

Unless the incorrectly-quoted paraphrase is exactly what she wants people to think she said. She essentially issued a stataement without issuing a statement. This gives her plausible deniability when the repercussions come her way.

I fail to see the “plausible deniability” in her other statement to the St. Petersburg Times: “Its a valid state of Hawaii birth certificate.”
That sounds like “going on the record” to me.
