AP: Unions Stymied Under Obama?

The Associated Press posted a story lamenting that Big Labor has failed so far to get Obama to heel by their commands. Big Labor has said "jump" and Obama has but skipped. The article is correct, though, that Big Labor has failed in its two biggest goals: socialist healthcare and card check. At least, they've failed so far.

A third failure has also been forced upon Big Labor. As a result of newly seated Republican Senator Scott Brown's win in Massachusetts, Big Labor was not able to install Craig Becker as the head of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB)...

The private sector unions are furious with the Democrats for not moving on card-check legislation. This was their last big opportunity to stem the decline in membership.

Public sector unions (SEIU) have been given a prime seat at Obama’s table as they represent the future for Democrats.

Radical environmentalists love this situation as they despise the private-sector unions (autos, steel, etc) and are a far stronger force within the DNC today.

I have long theorized that Democrats need to replace private-sector unions as their constituents due to the above. We are now seeing part of that take place.

partially a good point, the problem is private sector unions are not sustainable without government assistance.
Hence private sector unions are not going to become the friends of republicans.

I never said they would become friends.

Can’t imagine why the unions would want socialist health care. Their agreements provide for a lot of money and they get good health care now. If Obamacare passes, there won’t be any place to go TO to get good health care, no matter how much money you have.

All the Unions care about is whether the candidate is a Democrat or not. I remember in 2000 when the three biggest issues unions faced were NAFTA, trade with China, and immigration. On all three, Gore sided against them. Yet they dumped every spare dollar they could come up with into Gore’s campaign coffers.
