The Generation Zero Documentaryfirst previewed at the Tea Party Convention and CPACon Hannity last night confirmed that liberalism and the Baby Boomer generation were indeed the cause of the US financial meltdown, not to mention the worst recession since the Depression in the US. The brainchild of Steve Bannon and Dave Bossie, Generation Zero wasn't screened in its entirety on Hannity, but was broken down into several segments which were then analyzed in specific detail by Hannity and its creators. A pejorative reference to the Baby Boomer Generation that came of age in the drug-fueled and "If it feels good, do it" 60s, Generation Zero persuasively connects the dots between a dilapidation of both social and cultural values in the US that ultimately paved the way for the financial meltdown of 2008 and beyond.

Maybe so. However, we will all be better off when all these old liberal hippies are pushing up Daisies. This GROUP has been a parasite for way too long.
Left winged members of the baby BOOM generation primary accomplishments are:
1) Destruction of US education
2) A sexual revolution that devastated the family structure
3) An Over glorified concert in Woodstock that was rescued by the NY Nat’l Guard
4) A Ramped up drug culture
5) A Vietnam anti-war crowd with the blood of thousands of Vietnamese allies on their anti-war hands.
6) Jimmy Carter and Bill Ayers
7) Crappy bands in the 80’s—who do you think produced that garbage
8) The take over of the Democrat party between 1968-1972 and morphing it into the Marxist party of today.
9) The take over of news organizations and moving them full left of center.
10) The nurturing and development of Barrack Obama
I have the utmost respect for the Conservative members of the baby boom generation who had to endure the living hell of co-existing with these insane fellow boomers.
Well, that’s the meme of our age, find or make a victim. Investors are adults, they willing give their money to somebody else. The rest is details.
If tax rates were not so high, smaller return/safer investments would be possible. But they are not as they often return less over time when taxes and Federal Reserve caused inflation is taken into account.
So, many small investors drift to more riskier investments to actually get a real return.
Anyways, economics and the study of money is not taught in government schools since if the people knew what chumps they are, they would revolt.
The things you speak of are from WWII.
You are not thinking about how small the world really was in so many ways before those wars, a persons would live his entire life and never even leave the county he was born in much less the state or country.
Our soldiers served honorably in both wars, no one is disputing that, but I think it is undeniable that they all became more “worldly” while abroad. The smoking, drinking, drugs, prostitutes, foul language, different relationship with minorities, and crazy ideas like communism/socialism running rampant in Europe had an effect on the soldiers and when they returned they brought all of those bad habits back to their little towns and infected our culture.
Many people forget now that it wasn't always clear which side we would choose to help. There was a substantial number of people in America before those wars that supported Germany.
And I'd say that's less than 5% of the age group. I grew up in the 60s and 70s and might have known one liberal hippie in my age group. I think younger people watch the nostalgic propaganda from the aging liberal media hippies and get the idea that the "boomer generation" actually lived down to the artifical leftist hype.
Being an observer of modern history I have to agree that, during the ‘50s and ‘60s evil was allowed into our society. And as a tailend boomer I can say that the boomers were the spark to the gasoline that has gotten us to where we are now. Of course you can’t paint anyone or any generation with a wide brush, but I’m really surprised how personally some people here are taking it. Sheesh, the boomers are in charge and aren’t fixing anything, it’s getting worse.
Pure lunacy. Do some reading up about the 1920's with its speakeasys, gambling dens, etc.
I would really like to know where this notion of yours originated? Can you tell me the genesis of your rationale?
“Theyve been that rebellious and disrespectful since the end of the 60s and early 70s.”
Thank you! First honest post in the thread.
Surprised to see so many people whining about ‘young people’ today.
Exactly! Thank you.
We have our own problems, but we really could have used a generation that turned away from socialism rather then doubled down.
Yep. Arranging deck furniture on the Titanic.
If no real plan is at hand in Jan 2011, I am taking my time talents, money and tax revnue elsewhere. I refuse to sit here and watch the train wreck, I am going to get on another train.
I really wish folks on FR would quit pissng and moaning about who’s fault it is and make a real effort to fix the problems. I really blame TV for the lack of participation in local politics. I am not seeing the Republican Party with any plans here in NH. It is just the same old BS with the finger pointing of well I am not So and So or I will not vote with Pelosi, etc.... No plans just “get me elected” drivel. No body wants to be the “bad” guy and tell the 550 lb fat body there has to be some changes, time to stop the eating the 2lb bag of M&M’s and 2L bottle of coke for a snack twice a day. ( real observation by the way, I had a college prof that was 500+ lbs at age 32, and he did eat like that.....)
The assassination of JFK was the key public moment, no? Everything changed.
I remember riding along with an old LEO guy from the Greatest Generation. This would have been in the late 60s, I think. His exact words to me were, “It’s like people ain’t human anymore.” Based on what I knew of him, that summed up his opinion on what was going on in society. Something had been unleashed, and the older folks didn’t know what to do—but they still believed they should not question their government, so many, many simply turned away.
On the other hand, there were lots and lots of people of the Greatest Generation who despised FDR and Social Security, along with government encroachment of rights & responsibilities of the individual. IIRC, Kennedy spent our last real surplus. Making a living was still not guaranteed for anyone, and business collusion & corruption was known as widespread.
Once the actual shenanigans of the 1960 election were understood as being bought for JFK (W VA in particular), and the excesses of the Rat Pack ‘hip’ guys took hold to gain favor in DC, my older relatives simply turned away. States Rights advocates were met with cries of ‘racism’, just like now, even though that was all part of just wanting personal, individual freedom. And, responsibility.
Hatred of FDR and Social Security was part of daily ritual in my family’s household growing up, specifically because the programs were never designed to get people BACK on their feet, but, rather, to force them on their knees. He was known as ‘The Great White Father’—now what does that say?
Everyone around where I grew up in the Midwest KNEW LBJ was part of the JFK assassination—dirty, dirty. Everyone knew, but no one could say, since DC hid it all and didn’t bring down the perpetrators. And think about it. The members of the ‘Warren Commission’ or their relatives trace their lineage to today’s power brokers. None dare call it treason, then, or, now.
Universities were already teaching socialist spew by then, too; now, it’s just openly so. In Seminary, a theorist named Bultmann was being taught one place I knew in particular. He asserted that Jesus’ parables were myth. Even today, respected, experienced members of Methodism can assert—with impunity—that Jesus never physically resurrected.
If there was another America, I’d be there. I wonder what Mars is like this time of year?
“They realize that one thing they can try to do is to splinter their opposition in the hopes of winning a three way race.”
True. Part of their plan. Hubert Humphry’s scorched earth.
um... world war ONE happened in 1914-1918 BEFORE the roaring 20’s.
You are not listening.
I went to a Dead concert festival once because I happened to be in Youuu-jean and was curious. I also saw some real, honest-to-God hippies at a hot spring around that same time. They were cretins.
The most interesting experience from that weekend, other than coming upon some young chick from California dressed up in white filmy stuff, looking like a butterfly, saying, “Hello! My name is (?) and I’m from Venice!” in this lilting, high-pitched voice....(back to my original thought) was trying to make conversation at a pop machine with some scraggly looking guy. He was quiet and hard looking. I pressed to simply be conversational, to which he turned, looked at me, and said, in a French accent, “I do not tell people my business,” in a very menacing tone. At that moment, I realized I was looking into the eyes of a hard-core drug supplier, perhaps in town for the concert. I made my exit and made sure not to be followed, which I thought I would be.
The best and brightest of the Boomers went to war when drafted. Many died. There were some that for some reason didn’t. Some of those bugged out to Canada, came back, and turned completely power and money hungry.
I really don't like speaking in terms of generations because you have to make so many generalizations that it is difficult to be accurate.
However, I am worried that this “it is a whole generation's fault, they were greedy and selfish” argument is inaccurate, causes confusion and provides cover for the real evil doers. Most people I know in my age group are responsible, family oriented and patriotic. We have conservative values and are tired of being lied to and robbed blind by the political class.
My parents who are greatest generation(my father served in WWII, they worked hard all their lives) are lifelong Democrats. Their political heroes are FDR and Truman. They voted for Carter, Mondale, Dukakis and Clinton. They believe that Republicans are the party of the rich and not to be trusted.
Since I entered the workforce and supported myself I voted for Reagan in 1980 and have voted for Republicans ever since(even if it was just the lesser of two evils).
My point is the problem is the political class and the MSM. If we get distracted by generational stuff it only creates confusion.
Point well taken. Folks here are up in arms that their generation is being blamed. Folks need to chill out and actually watch the video. They were talking about the changes brought about by the liberal members of the boomer group and how they have changed our culture to where it is at today.
I agree, here is what I think happened. WWI and WW2 sent millions of Americans to Europe, and those soldiers brought back with them socialist ideas, and a degraded moral compass.
I guess you wish you could amend your posts???????????
WW1 led to the depravity seen in the roaring 20’s
WW2 led to the depravity seen in the 60’s
The degradation of the 20’s was cut short by the great depression, which started in 1929.
Friedrich Engels, built upon Marx's work and released The Origins of the Family, Private Property, and the State in 1884.
Lenin adapted Marxs urban revolution to Russias agricultural conditions, sparking the revolutionary nationalism of the poor.” The pamphlet What is to be Done? was released in 1902.
The Russian Revolution occurred in 1917.
War War I 1914-1918.
American soldiers return from WWI in 1918 having been exposed for the first time in their lives to communist/socialist ideas that had been bubbling up in Europe for nearly 70 years. Many of them take those views to heart, and start pushing for a socialist revolution in the United States
Roaring 20’s occurs
1929 Stock Market crash and Great Depression ends the decadence and depravity of the 20’s
FDR's New Deal stated in 1933.
United States enters WWII 1941
World War 2 ends in 1945
