Glenn Beck, Performer and Provocateur
Canada Free Press ^ | February 23, 2010 | Alan Caruba

Posted on 02/23/2010 3:42:45 PM PST by raptor22

I watched Glenn Beck mesmerize the audience at the CPAC meeting that had begun so well with serious conservative speakers such as former Vice President Dick Cheney. However, it ended as a libertarian fun fest and Beck strikes me as the clown prince of libertarianism. (snip)

Beck is, above all, a performer. He made his bones on talk radio, migrated for a while to CNN, and then to Fox News where he is enormously popular. His manner is that of the smart kid in high school who secretly wishes he was the captain of the football team, but has to settle for being able to keep the other kids laughing because he can devilishly imitate Mr. Brown, the math teacher, to perfection.

He’s all googly-eyes and deep sighs. He’s in near constant motion even when he is seated. Every time he starts to choke up and/or tear up, I want him to man up.

He tells us, too, that he was formerly an alcoholic, was once totally broke, and only attended one class for one semester of college. Give him credit for rising above all that, but remember, too, that his primary talent in life is to sit behind a radio microphone or stand in front of a television camera and “perform.”

Most conservatives are Republicans, at least I always thought that was the case. And then Beck sanctimoniously calls us progressives, that the country is over and it’s all our fault. He infers there is no difference between Democrats and Republicans, reminding me of all the idiots on here that say the same thing.

He does that just when we have some serious momentum building towards the elections this fall. I am so damn sick of people tossing the RINO tag at anyone who disagrees with them. Beck was the last straw. With his speech, he could have built up the movement to win back the congresses this fall but instead he plays to all the kooks who can’t lose fast enough just to prove that the Republicans suck.

I am just as patriotic and love my country as much as you do but I will not sit there and be insulted by that asshole Beck. The old Republican party let us down but that is the past. Beck seems to be in the past as well. He needs to learn to recognize the real enemy of America. It isn’t us.

Have you ever seen him go after McLame? I haven’t. I have only heard him say what he said at CPAC. The Repulicans are just as bad as the Democrats. In truth, the conservative Republicans are not as bad as the Democrats. The Rinos are but he smears the whole party - like he is a libertarian.

He went after Progressives. Entirely too many Republicans are leaning "Progressive".

If you don't see this as a serious issue for Conservatives to consider during a CONSERVATIVE meeting... Then maybe you just need to head back to the Country Club with the rest of the Beltway insiders.

Most recent action on Phase 2 was to paint him as a Global Warming nut.

Didn't exactly work as planned... *snicker*

ARE you a “Progressive”? IF not, then Glenn wasn’t talking about you and you can go back to watching WWF.

Here are the statistics on the Presidents and their growth of government adjusted for inflation. Glenn Beck was correct. The Republicans ARE addicted to spending.

Johnson: 4.1 percent
Nixon/Ford: 5 percent
Carter: 1.6 percent
Reagan: 1.4 percent
Bush I: 3.8 percent
Clinton: 2.1 percent
Bush II: 4.8 percent

Source:
http://www.wnd.com/index.php/index.php?pageId=37294

I added the numbers (of the growth of government adjusted for inflation by President) and then averaged them. This is what I got:

Democrats:
4.1 Johnson
1.6 Carter
2.1 Clinton
7.8 Total
2.6 Average Democrats

Republicans:
5.0 Nixon/Ford
1.4 Reagan
3.8 Bush
4.8 Bush
15.0 Total
3.75 Average Republicans

The Republican Administrations HAVE been spending addicts!

I listened to Rush for years, got stale.

Boortz was fine, but same there. Kept hearing the same thing over and over.

Beck is trying to shake things up and I think he's doing a damn fine job.

That being said, with a progressive homosexual group as a cosponser and hoards of Paulites, CPAC is no longer a "deeply conservative event".

I think that sums it up nicely, Eagles6.

It’s like trying to convice a liberal that government run healthcare is no good. They just have an inability to understand it.

Now that’s funny. I posted the same picture from a different source on another Beck bashing thread. You were first, so I guess you get the patent.

Sorry if I have given you the impression that Bush’s spending and expansion of government pleased me. It did not.

“Exactly right. His speech at cpac pissed me off to no end.”

Good. I hope it pissed off a LOT of folks. We needed a wake up call....even NOW we’re STILL electing PROGRESSIVE Republicans, i.e., Scott Brown.... and it MUST change. We can’t keep going to the HARDWARE STORE and expecting to find BREAD.

I think Beck informs lots of folks with info they don’t get anywhere else.
I do get irritated by his melodrama and self promotion. He, like “commander zero” is not a savior.
He is making a lot of money but good for him, it still is America, for now

We are in the process of doing just that. We didn’t need Beck preaching to us. We know what to do, does he?
