Glenn Beck, Performer and Provocateur
Canada Free Press ^ | February 23, 2010 | Alan Caruba

Posted on 02/23/2010 3:42:45 PM PST by raptor22

I watched Glenn Beck mesmerize the audience at the CPAC meeting that had begun so well with serious conservative speakers such as former Vice President Dick Cheney. However, it ended as a libertarian fun fest and Beck strikes me as the clown prince of libertarianism. (snip)

Beck is, above all, a performer. He made his bones on talk radio, migrated for a while to CNN, and then to Fox News where he is enormously popular. His manner is that of the smart kid in high school who secretly wishes he was the captain of the football team, but has to settle for being able to keep the other kids laughing because he can devilishly imitate Mr. Brown, the math teacher, to perfection.

He’s all googly-eyes and deep sighs. He’s in near constant motion even when he is seated. Every time he starts to choke up and/or tear up, I want him to man up.

He tells us, too, that he was formerly an alcoholic, was once totally broke, and only attended one class for one semester of college. Give him credit for rising above all that, but remember, too, that his primary talent in life is to sit behind a radio microphone or stand in front of a television camera and “perform.”

Let Beck perform. Do NOT let Beck lead.

Well said.

I only occasionally watch Glenn Beck these days. He’s on during my dinner time.

That's way more than I can handle, about ten minutes into the drama queen's show and I'm reaching for the remote.

Speach? Is that a cross between preach and speech?

Someone who can speak with feeling and is a bit animated is a drama queen now?

And I suppose if your eyes well with tears because you speak of the love you have for your Country THAT makes you a drama queen, too? Well consider ME the same way...I'll carry that as a badge of honor!

Oh, and I get MAJOR goose bumps when I hear our National Anthem, too. What other name do you have for me now that you know I do THAT "awful" action, as well???

This says WELL more about you, than Glenn.

He didn’t hit Obama hard - he attacked Republicans , saying the are like a bunch of vomiting alcoholics, drunk with spending. It was a great speech... for 2006.

"In this deeply conservative event, Beck determined that everyone was the problem. In that, he was and is deeply mistaken."

Well, lots of blame to go around including many American citizens.

That being said, with a progressive homosexual group as a cosponser and hoards of Paulites, CPAC is no longer a "deeply conservative event".

Beck painted a huge target on his back the day he went after ACORN and then the day he ripped the ACORN PR guy on TV.

Like Palin, the socialists fear Beck and they are trying to marginalize him as a cuckoo.

I treat Beck like the internet, and cull and verify what he teaches me.

At the same time, I learned so much from him that was being covered NOWHERE else readily accessible. He has not only scooped the entire fringe media, but he has scooped Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly and many others.

Obama is turning up the heat on him. It looks like a 2 phase plan.

Phase 1, now, is show him he is unstable and ready to blow. This is to make people suspect him and to set him up for the kill in phase 2.

Phase 2 will be to reveal a few nasty pieces of dirt on him so he looks like he is an undependable source of information.

Anyone with a brain will see through it and still take from Beck the facts he presents that we can cull and verify.

That is an insult to those hard working talented people. He has talent but not enough to be one of them. There’s a couple of candles on that birthday cake that just won’t stay lit.

I love it when the Republican RINOs and Republicans, that bend over to the Democrats and Washington establishment, get all upset and their panties in a wad because they get called out for being Rats.

McCain type Republicans need to go.

I don’t understand why people like you can not see that when he speaks of the Republican Party, he is speaking of the people that actually run it and who decide what candidates are supported, what the platform will be, etc.

How could you think that he is speaking of individuals like Demint, Palin, Bachmann, etc.

He is speaking of the people who brought us McCain, Lindsey Graham, etc.

As long as the big R ignores the little r, Beck is right.

I would also point out that his expose of the communists, socialists and progressives surrounding Obummer, the Marxist now posing as a Fascist, have forced other news medias to report what otherwise never would have been reported.

Of course he is an entertainer and he does not pretend to be anything other than an entertainer with a mix of politics, news and history.

For instance, did your high school history teacher teach you what and who President Wilson really was? Mine certainly did not and I went to high school when they really taught history, when you had to memorize Lincoln’s Gettysburg address, etc.

Did either your high school history teacher or your local news paper ever discuss this:

“Under the Espionage Act of 1917 and the Sedition Act of 1918, Wilson’s administration shut down newspapers and magazines at an astounding pace. Indeed, any criticism of the government, even in your own home, could earn you a prison sentence. One man was brought to trial for explaining in his own home why he didn’t want to buy Liberty Bonds.

The Wilson administration sanctioned what could be called an American fascisti, the American Protective League. The APL – a quarter million strong at its height, with offices in 600 cities – carried government-issued badges while beating up dissidents and protesters and conducting warrantless searches and interrogations. Even after the war, Wilson refused to release the last of America’s political prisoners, leaving it to subsequent Republican administrations to free the anti-war Socialist Eugene V. Debs and others.”

Beck deserves credit for discussing topics such as Wilson for the benefit of those who otherwise never would have known.

LMAO! If you are implying the party of lets elect John McLame is a conservative, then you need to put down your crack pipe.

The Republican are all about making government bigger and not smaller. They just dont want to grow it as fast as the Democrats. That’s all. They are democrat light in other words.

Michele Bachmann is great, but a minority in the Republican party. I would take Backmann over Palin any day.

The writer seems to indicate that Beck started off in talk radio. No, he began as a top-40 disk jockey, at, I recollect, a station in St. Petersburg, Florida. Using the skills he developed there, especially humor, he transitioned into talk radio.

Canada Free Press usually has very hard hitting conservative articles. It seems that Glenn Beck isn’t for everyone...Mark Levin doesn’t like him either partly because a third party would keep the rats in power.

He paints with too broad a brush and makes the perfect the enemy of the good.

I would say the same about at least one other in talk radio in regards to Beck.

I also don't think he has ever said there is no one in the GOP doing it right. As an organization, it is still screwing up - endorsing insider losers like Crist in primaries, dumping money for Scazzafava in NY, etc.
