The parents made a mistake in this situation, and they dont even know it. The main point is this; they let the government give them something. And as we all know, government assistance of any kind comes with strings attached. Every level of assistance has a cost attached to it. Requirements, limitations, stipulations, and mandates are universally part of government programs. When people fail to recognize that fact, they are made victims.
Some will say that citing this situation is splitting hairs. It is not. The schools, especially since they are part of the government indoctrination machine, are based on control. The officials at this district obviously felt entitled to turn on webcams remotely, after NOT informing the recipients of this feature. Obviously, they were not thinking of the privacy rights of the students. Or, they were, and thats why the parents were not informed of the security function. At any rate, who knows what they watched, or what they deleted once the story came out. Given the recent history of school personnel committing sexual offenses, its not a stretch to imagine that something inappropriate was happening.
As the story suggests, the school used this to allegedly accuse one student of inappropriate behavior. This, if established as fact, would clearly show that the school was violating the privacy of students. This leads to a final point, and one that we all need to recognize. If the government, or an agent of the government, is given power, that power will be abused. It not a question of if, it is a question of when.

Man, the officials that allowed this to happen are beyond stupid. The lawsuits will bankrupt this district. And people should be going to prison over this.
The way that they are defending it and acing as if it was no big deal is even more disturbing.
I would have expected to hear some outrage from the parents of these kids. None of the reports I’ve seen quoted any parents. Anybody have a different take?
Government Assistance Comes with Strings Attached: Are Schools Spying on Kids? (and their families?0

Duh!
I saw an interview on FOX with a kid and a parent. But otherwise, not too much from parents. That’s even more disturbing.
Possibly, but there really isn’t evidence of that...yet.
I remember a court case several years ago where a woman was prosecuted by the feds for being in possession of an American eagle feather she picked up off the ground in a national park. I remember the case, because I was totally shocked by it. She did some minor jail time. I’m sure she was totally ignorant and innocent of the “crime.” No intent to commit a crime there, but she paid for it anyway.
These people don’t realize that they are skating on very thin ice. However, due to the publicity about the case, maybe they’ll get away without too much damage and their reputations intact — after all, they only have their students’ best interests at heart, right?
I hope this principal gets her story straight and has good legal representation if she decides to be questioned by the feds. Martha Stewart didn’t go to jail for insider trading. If I remember correctly, she went to jail for lying to the FBI.
This is way different. Fourth Amendment.
They spy on your children’s facebook pages, too. Had it happen at our kids’ high school. They used fake names to get permission to access. Very creepy the way Big Brother has taken over families through the schools. Big Brother is a pervert, too.
Fourth Amendment, picking up a bird feather in a national park? What’s the difference to the Feds? A crime is a crime, even if the average person can’t fathom why it is a crime.
In school health care (already installed) has provided evidence of the personal intrusions of the government into familial privacy.
