Old Wine in New Bottles Still Tastes Like Vinegar: Obama Unveils Health Plan!
Flopping Aces ^ | 02-22-10 | Mike's America

Just the same old $Trillion Big Government Tax & Spend Monstrosity!

Did anyone really expect that when President Obama FINALLY unveiled a health care plan that it would be anything different or new from the hideous plans Dems in both the House and Senate have been trying to force down our throats?

Well, if you did think this one would be different, you were wrong.

This morning the White House released their new and improved health plan promising so much but delivering only the same old big taxes, big spending, big government solutions that the American people have overwhelmingly rejected.

So maybe Obama did remove the Cornhusker compromise, that $100 million payoff to Nebraska that Sen. Ben Nelson(D-NE) insisted be inserted into the Senate bill. He left in place the $300 million Louisiana Purchase for Sen. Mary Landrieu's(D-LA) vote. Obama's version rejects the House Stupak amendment prohibiting taxpayer funds to subsidize abortions in favor of the watered down Senate language. This violates Obama's earlier pledge that abortion will not be funded.

Worst of all, The White House made it clear that if Senate Republicans filibuster this repackaged version of the earlier Senate bill that Democrats are prepared to move forward and pass the bill using a reconciliation process that was designed only to be used to pass federal budgets.

Is this bill, with it's Democrats only ideas and the threat of unprecedented action to override GOP objections in the Senate, a model of the kind of bipartisanship Obama often refers to?

Republican Leader Boehner Not Amused

Boehner: President’s Health Care Proposal Jeopardizes Summit, Doubles Down on Failed Approach Americans Have Already Rejected

GOP Leader: “The President has crippled the credibility of this week’s summit by proposing the same massive government takeover of health care based on a partisan bill the American people have already rejected.”

Washington, Feb 22 - Follow @GOPLeader on Twitter for updates. House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement in response to the partisan health care proposal posted online by the White House for discussion at the upcoming bipartisan health care summit:

There’s a lot of documents there talking about “it” (the President’s proposal), but I don’t see “it” to read for myself.

Funny how that works.

Is mold growing in it yet? When i was younger vinegar often grew mold on the surface of the vinegar level. It was called ,a mother for some reason.

Now I never see that happen. No matter how old the vinegar is. Must be pasteurized differently..

“Old wine in new bottles”

I never understood this old cliche. Why would anyone want to transfer old (i.e. aged, expensive) wine into a new bottle? I might understand transferring new (cheap) wine into an old bottle (of an expensive vintage); to impress people with my largess. (The exception would be Beaujolais nouveau — that you do want in a new bottle.)

BTW — I know I'm completely missing the point of the article.

I never understood this old cliche. Why would anyone want to transfer old (i.e. aged, expensive) wine into a new bottle?

It is a slight corruption of a Bible passage: "Neither do men pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved." Matt. 9:17.

Note, these are wineskins, not bottles (hence, the modern corruption) in the passage. So, it's a play on the saying though, as you point out, it is a little off kilter.

Dear Governor Perry,

On March 30, 2009 the Texas House of Representatives passed HCR 50 affirming that the State of Texas claims sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment.

You have publicly supported this bill, and stated that attorney generals from all over the union could be getting ready to sue the US Government.

We are asking you to take the lead.

We are asking you to order the Texas Attorney General to publicly begin working on a law suit under Article IV, Ninth, and Tenth Amendment of the Constitution.

We are asking you to protect the citizens of Texas that we will not stand for government controlled healthcare in our state.

Under your leadership we can effectively kill the proposal of this administration and allow Texas to be a state free from socialism and collectivism.

Be the voice of reason in the national debate and allow Texans the ability to solve the problems of our state.

Thank you,

Facts about the 10th Amendment:

The Tenth Amendment (Amendment X) of the United States Constitution, which is part of the Bill of Rights, was ratified on December 15, 1791. The Tenth Amendment restates the Constitution’s principle of Federalism by providing that powers not granted to the national government nor prohibited to the states are reserved to the states or the people.

HCR 50 HAS PASSED THE HOUSE 99-36!
Affirming that the State of Texas claims sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the U.S. Constitution, serving notice to the federal government to cease and desist certain mandates, and providing that certain federal legislation be prohibited or repealed.

Take Action! Before it is too late!

Feds Have Built Only 32 Miles of 700 Mile Double-Border Fence Originally Mandated by Congress

“One reason DHS has been able to do this is an amendment that Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R.-Texas) slipped into an omnibus appropriations bill that Congress passed on December 18, 2007. Hutchison’s amendment put a loophole in the fence law that allowed the secretary of Homeland Security not
to build the fence Congress had mandated the year before.”

Thanks for reminding me of that Bible passage. For some reason, I never made the connection.

I was thinking that “Put leftover wine in new bottles” would make some sense — for cheapo types, wanting to recycle party left overs.

Tennessee has joined several other states in trying to pass a Health Care Freedom Act. NO COLAs for granny, retired Military or retired fed employees. BIG NEW fees for Tricare for Life retired over 65 Military's secondary health ins. (DOD bill already passed, delayed but goes into effect 2011)

Obama says slight fix will extend Social Security

TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:

http://economicspolitics.blogspot.com/2009/05/tricare-for-life-is-obama-trying-to.html

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollee’s cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.)

Congress plans to block Tricare fee increases
http://www.armytimes.com/news/2009/10/military_tricarefees_blocked_100709w

By Rick Maze - Staff writer, Oct 7, 2009

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.

Snip

The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.

Snip

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.

“President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees” in fiscal 2010, Matz said. “We took them at their word, and I can’t believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward,” he added.
