As a career counselor and recruiter for over 20 years, I can tell you this is good advice. I'll add one more tip: ALWAYS send a "Thank You" card or note right after an interview to the person or persons you just talked to. It will bring your resume and/or application back to the top of the stack several days into the process and show that you are courteous and have follow-through.

I know the Parachute book which like the Bible has been a bestseller for the past 30- some years. But I’ve never met anyone who’s gotten a job using its methodology o f asking form informational interviews.
