Amy Bishop’s mother went to bat for Braintree police captain at ‘86 town meeting

BRAINTREE — When a veteran Braintree police captain sought town meeting approval in 1986 to stall his mandatory retirement, Judith Bishop was among the town meeting members to support him.

A Patriot Ledger article published on May 14, 1986, quoted Bishop voicing her support for Capt. Charles Solimini at the spring town meeting vote.

Seven months later, another Solimini on the Braintree force, patrolman Ron Solimini, and another officer apprehended Bishop’s daughter, Amy, in a brief but tense standoff with the armed 21-year-old. Patrolman Solimini’s relationship to Capt. Solimini could not be determined Thursday.

Amy Bishop had just shot and killed her 18-year-old brother, Seth, which police soon determined had been an accident. Following Bishop’s arrest last week in Alabama on murder charges for allegedly shooting to death three colleagues, the handling of the 1986 investigation has come under scrutiny.

The Ledger article describes 65-year-old Capt. Solimini’s unsuccessful attempt to keep working as a police officer until age 70 – five years beyond his mandatory state retirement age.

Bishop addressed the crowded meeting before a vote was taken and was quoted as saying, “He’s the youngest 65-year-old I’ve seen in a while. He’s not looking forward to retiring.”

Solimini’s petition was defeated by a 84-74 vote.

It is bad enough that Amy Bishop went on to do horrific things, but I can’t help but have the same realization I had when I first saw “To Catch a Predator”.

After the first wave of shock and anger subsides you are hit with a realization that if there are enough guys to make a show about there have to be alot more they never catch.

So the real question is how many politically connected criminals are out and about in our universities, companies, churches, malls, etc?

We might be seeing the hidden underbelly of liberal opposition to RKBA, maybe they don't trust themselves with weapons. Rather than a belief in self discipline they realize that they are prone to act on the impulse of the moment, and they assign this tendency to everyone else.

They couldn't believe that Florida would not have blood running in the gutters when CCW legislation passed, and they still use the same argument in states that don't have shall issue CCW laws.

Self discipline just seems to be a foreign concept to them!

Liberalism might just really be a mental illness!
