Glenn Beck, the latest phenom of the Conservative Movement, jumps the shark nearly every week.
I have not been a fan of his. That said, I believe he is putting the movement in jeopardy.
You could spend a whole day surfing youtube for his latest outlandish behavior, but I do not fault him for that. In the entertainment industry, it is necessary to put on some sort of showmanship. I dont personally like his brand, but I would not bicker over personal taste.
The problem I see is that he is not uplifting. He is more libertarian than conservative, but his message always seems to end up with the viewer or listener commiserating with him. As if he has accepted being the shepard and just aims to console rather than inspire.
It is not a good path for someone who commands as great an audience as he has.
Beck should lead like a parent, allowing his audience to understand that while exposing what the administration is doing, he encourages them to want to do something about it. He does not do that, instead, he nurtures inaction. Sitting around and learning bad things then mourning for their country will drive people to drink and continue to want to commiserate with others who do the same and cycle continues. The only stimulating thing Beck has done has to do with driving people toward Ron Paul, which is just disgraceful, especially since the Paul followers are isolationists and security-challenged.
I take serious offense with his continuous drive toward a third party. That idea is reprehensible and he should know better, and has been pulled by the ear by many conservatives because of it. Yet, he continues. He seems able enough to repeat quotes from serious scholars and thinkers without telling his audience who said it first, but he hasnt an inkling how to listen to the message these thinkers give.
Many have wondered if he is just in it for himself. There is nothing wrong with being a capitalist, but to steal and put up fronts is no way to lead. The worst kind of capitalist is one who does not govern himself first. Perhaps that is why he doesnt inspire his viewers and listeners. He doesnt know how.
Look, I know he has had a past that included drugs and alcohol, and I do not fault him for that. People in glass houses and so on, but his direction is no longer humorous.
Being in management myself, I have always employed the idea of hiring your replacement, then staying one step ahead of them. It encourages healthy competition and drives the best to the top. Sarah Palin was just hired by Fox. If she is given any kind of freedom there, Beck is toast.
I watched the Constitution Town Hall that Hillsdale College gave a while back, and Dr. Larry Arnn said that in order to move the country to where it needs to go, which is toward the Constitution and the Founding, it is going to take a lot of thinking. Mr. Beck needs to start doing that.
The flirtation with 3rd party is one knock against Beck, but it is up to the GOP to win votes, not just be the lesser of two evils. I am a firm believer in working within the party to fix it, but it is not an obligation to vote for the GOP just because the Dems are worse. They need to present a better path. Unfortunately, the party leadership lost that between 2003 and 2006. The party seems to be responding well. Beck is not a straight ticket Republican, and clearly is fed up on number of issues. If he went balls-out for a third party, my opinion would change, but he is just flirting with the concept, IMO.
Anyone who believes that Americans conspired to cause 9/11 is a traitor or a fool, or both. I worked in one of those buildings and people I knew died there. Crawl back into your hole with the other haters and anti-Semitic Paulistas. There is no place for you here.
When people haven’t learned lessons from the past they tend to repeat them.
A “threat” is about the silliest thing I’ve every heard.
Really, does he tell everyone to join the GOP?
I agree completely. We are in a very confusing period.
All the big names on Talk Radio are trying to extend and impose their brand on this growing new constituency, and find a place for themselves in it. Beck has planned, I think I heard him say today or yesterday, literally dozens of ‘events’ starting this Spring, all across the country, centering on a presentation of how vital
faith was to the Founding Fathers, and how profoundly inextricable it is to our tattered original Documents, the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution. It’s an area that’s important to him, and one he wants to emphasize just for that reason.
This is fine with me. Beck is not running for office, and doesn’t want to, any more than Joe the Plumber does, if his recent interview with Sean Hannity is any indication.
The real problem with ANY AND ALL “Conservative Media Authority Figures” is how they might turn their acolytes into mind-numbed followers, and how little that will help the ongoing project of taking back America from these pretenders currently in the White House. Right now, EVERYONE is vying for the right to corral, influence, exploit and dominate this constituency, just as the RNC is doing with “fifty leaders of the Tea Party Movement”. I wonder just who anointed these guys as Leaders? It sounds like the usual game of “I’ll grant credibility to you if you grant credibility to me” -—they thereby create the impression that they’re collectively “the only game in town”. Of course the REAL work remains to be done, by us drones in our local communities-——I just KNEW this would happen, and I totally steer clear of it, just as I was warning for 3 or 4 months now, my own Tea Party group what lay ahead with the RNC and all the ‘entrepreneurs’ who are there to cash in, one way or another, on the big, and sometimes very gullible new population.
And oh, btw, in that Joe the Plumber interview, Joe really had to be bluntly honest about how he feels he was used by McCain, even though he knew it all along, and couldn’t do much of anything about it. Pssssst, Joe! It’s not just you!
He also used Sarah Palin, who ALSO probably figured it out at some point, too.
after what you said, its ironic that you call someone adolescent
I sometimes wish he were more "uplifting," but I'm reminded that the watchman on the wall actually has a pretty thankless job, which I think is his emerging role.
What is that supposed to mean?
Bingo! You have hit the nail on the head with Glenn Beck.
Does this mean that he gets it right all the time? No.
Does this mean that he wants to assume the role of a leader - whatever that means? No. I don't see myself as a leader, either for that matter.
Does this mean that he's only in it for the money? No - Lord knows that he wouldn't be saying the things he does if money were the issue.
Beck's like the neighbor next door who sees your house is on fire. He's not a fireman, but he's doing his best to warn you to save yourself.
Sometimes you have great responsibilites thrust upon you. Beck's using his forum and his resources to expose not just who is trying to destroy our Republic and enslave us but also the pedigree of their ideas! If you don't understand that, then you don't really understand the pure, murderous, smirking EVIL that drives them.
That's what has him so concerned for the future of America. He can see the monsters behind their hopey-changey masks. Make no mistake, folks - for they are monsters. I've outlined their history and their ambitions in my Fourth of July 2009 Tea Party Speech
Beck's major fault is that he believes that a Ghandi-like resistance is the way to go. In that, he's wrong. When the monster mask slips, then we're going to have to do everything we can to put them down. Everything. For the price of not doing so means slaughter, atrocity and and enslavement on a scale that beggars the imagination.
1/300,000,000 of a trillion dollars is a lot, thanks:)
Do you disagree with the concepts he is discussing with the progressive movement? I think is about 95% dead on. There’s a few things I view differently about what he’s said, mostly the lumping of everyone from Bush to Teddy Roosevelt into the same category of ‘progressive’, but overall he has a strong point.
In addition, I believe the work he is doing is a large contributor to the rapid demise of the Democrat party. There is a reason the WH press team quickly added Beck to their talking points last summer...lumped in with Cheney, Rush and others. He is effective and he has changed the political environment — for the better.
Then don’t watch, or discuss him at all.
That is all you can do in the marketplace of ideas and entertainment performances.
Mostly ad hominem and blah—blah-—blah!
Beck is doing a pretty good job of portraying “everyman” and he makes one think and research. Yes, this is entertainment, but he has had some very scholarly and thoughtful guests, etc. He brings up many good points. I enjoy his show most of the time and can independently discern what is good and not so good....as I do with anything I see or read or hear anywhere. I suggest you do the same.
Thanks very much. I googled right afterward and got the right sytax. I thought I remembered the tags but I should have checked.
you should have read further
Beck is a voice crying in the wilderness. He has almost singlehandedly exposed czars like Van Jones and the ACORN fraud videos, along with other radicals in the present administration, that have people thirsting for answers. There have been security incidents for him and his family.
He’s not always right. He doesn’t say he is. I contend he’s missed the boat entirely on the present office holder’s legitimate, Constitutional claim to the Presidency.
Beck is asking questions and raising issues like few others. I think O’Reilly is trying to shield him, but it is clear that the flak he takes is because he’s dead on the money. Now, he has very powerful friends...along with powerful enemies who would gladly do him in by whatever method that takes.
The stories he covers ask questions and encourage people to read the actual, founding documents of the United States. This task is crucial, as many, many have never been taught American ideals and precepts of government. Now that we know AGW is bunk science, the thought of bunk education and peer review at the highest and most intellectual levels is obvious; this is the 60s radicals last, best chance to destroy the country. The seepage of Marxist, anti-American drivel is in children’s textbooks and university research alike, in pure, hard science as well as in soft science, side-by-side.
The Depression-era folks now dying off, we have no one to tell the stories that so many never learned. Last year, children’s books put out prior to 1985 were declared illegal ‘for safety reasons.’ The WH called historians to a ‘dinner’ and discussion early on in 2009; our history is and has been rewritten. There is no one to lead because there is previous little light on the dark places Potomac water seeps into now. So, we have to comb through documents and references previously ridiculed or excoriated to find the pearls.
Beck’s best recent thought, IMHO, is that it will be up to American citizens to right the ship of state or rebuild it as the USS America if it sinks; we are all apprentice shipbuilders now.
I support him, not because he is right on everything, but because one candle cannot burn forever, but millions of candles outshine whatever darkness comes our way in these dangerous, shadowy times. It may well be that these lights will save America all over again, and conquer the land our pioneer forebears fought and died to establish. We are the last, best hope on earth. There is no where else to run. We must lead ourselves according to the lights and rights of the Republic.
Actually that was Dr. Gene Scott.
