I've just heard from an impeccable source that Barbara Mikulski, the Democratic Senator who is up for reelection this November, will choose to retire. Mrs. Mikulski is expected to make her formal announcement in the next few days.
Mrs. Mikulski seriously fractured her right ankle last fall just prior to Edward M. Kennedy's death. Due to the severity of the fracture, she had to have open reduction surgery, that included the insertion of pins, as well as the use of special surgical boots, during recovery. She had tried to arrive in time for Mr. Kennedy's funeral but was turned away.
Her recovery has been exceptionally slow and she is evidently still in a great deal of pain. Reportedly, she has told her physician that she does not desire to seek reelection. Additionally, friends and family have been saying in the near future she will announce her retirement. Because of the very slow recovery, she has been forced to use a wheelchair, a walker or a cane in order to get around.
One of her complaints is that the health insurance that is provided for Congress is "poor" with high deductibles and "limitations" on coverage. My contact tells me that she told an aide that she should have inserted in the ObamaCare bill an amendment to improve Congressional health insurance! Mrs. Mikulski was first elected to the Senate in 1986, and thus is a very senior member of the Democratic caucus. Despite this seniority, she has never been offered any important chairmanships or leadership positions. Born on July 20, 1936, she is 74 years old, come July...it is perhaps fitting that she has choose this year to retire.
Her possible announcement along with that of Evan Bayh and Byron Dorgan of ND will the third Democratic Senator announcing plans to retire.

Yes..I like it ..but??? is this purposeful? Someone pulling stings of the democratic party?
Nows she's on the way out, and the oustanding Justice Thomas will be on duty for many, many years.
Life is good.
Ellen or Helen. Good with me.
I’m starting to wonder if they know something we don’t.
I would not put anything past Obama.
He’s getting to the point where he has nothing to lose.
Yea lat night here in Pa...hanging out here...BTW good news these folks are leaving but I get an uncomfortable feeling with this too...like they’re all going to drop the mess in the GOP’s lap...
We need to beat them at their own game! ( AND sneak in conservative hunks great eye candy for freeper-cougars) ......Liberals don't care what they think on any issue but abortion. On that subject we just make statements like Brown did “It's the law of the land” (A true statement..It is now, but....)All the MSM will pick up that their anti-life which liberals love and even some conservatives, who don't go to the originals source will fall for.
Jeez, I guess my post in #66 was a little too subtle.
Great phrase - "Keyes camPAIN". Been there. Done that.

Or, you could move it up a foot, and it could serve as a sling for her wattle.
Hahaha just read that post, yay GMTA
“Is this a joke?”
Only if you think it’s funny. I don’t.
I pay for my own health insurance, only to be dragged around by the scumbag provider every time I my kid goes to the doctor.
I’d like to join a co-op or have more competition or lower fees by having tort reform, but it has never even been whispered by a Democrat.
Mikulski has got to be kidding me?
You won’t like the creature that they replace her with!
My bet, Chris Van Hollen, who is smart as a whip and will have ten times the energy to destroy our nation.
He’ll probably be a US Senator ~ if the Republic survives ~ till after I am dead.
I’m 46.
KKT was the role model for “Marcia” Coakley.
They won’t make that mistake again.
We need to get Kweisi Mfume, of the multiple paternities, out here to oppose the Dem’s anointed one.
“What dog pound is she retiring to?”
NOT the “Littlest Pet Shop.”
