...The part of this tawdry story that has not gotten enough attention involves still another woman named Bunny. I don’t think that John Edwards slept with her, but considering how much money she gave him(directly and indirectly) he probably would have. This Bunny is 99 year old Rachel Lowe Lambert Lloyd Mellon, the widow of Paul Mellon...

Scant attention has been given to the role Bunny Mellon played in John Edwards' ascension into national politics. Where will this money trail lead?

As usual, the “source” article is much more interesting:

This poor lady has had to live with a name like “Bunny” for over 99 years?

Well, I suppose it could be worse. She could have had a name like ‘’Tilly’’ or ‘’Bertie’’ or something.

But what about John Edwards cheating on his wife?, one of the investigators eventually interrupted.

“All young men do that,” she breezily replied.”

Spoken like a true enabler!

Her husband was the son of Andrew W. Mellon, Secretary of the Treasury for Republican Presidents in the 1920s. (The "W." in his name does not stand for "water.")

Paul Mellon's daughter by his first wife, Bunny's step-daughter, is one of former Senator John Warner's ex-wives (not the most glamorous of his ex-wives, I'd guess).

My grandmother’s name was Theodora. I don’t think I ever ran in to anyone else with that name.

Yes, and let us not forget that when the step-daughter died, Warner inherited beaucoup loot. In fact, old Hoppin’ John became so filthy rich that none other than the one-and-only Liz Taylor fell head over heels for him and became his next wife!

Yes, in spite of your having committed a serious venial sin in not linking to the original article, the graphic of John-Boy and his conga line is fantastic!

Not financially, at least until she ran in to Edwards.

Are you suggesting that Edwards and company drained Miss Bunny dry? If so, think again. The three million (or was it six?) that Lady Mellon secretly funneled to the Edwards campaign was no more than chump change for her.

I heard that she had to mortgage her farm to get the money
she gave Edwards aid.

I didn’t read who this Bunny was until now. The story I saw on TV was about his aid fleecing some old lady by having her mortgage her family farm to the tune of half a million or so to rent the CA home.

Haven’t come across the story and I doubt it.

If she really did something like that, however, it must have been just a temporary expedient to get a pile of ready cash that wouldn’t show up prominently in the farm’s audited books of account.

(You certainly don’t want your CPA to learn you’re funneling big bucks on the sly to a leading candidate for POTUS. I should think the CPA would be legally and ethically obliged to report such transactions to the authorities.)

Well this is another great thing about Edwards. The guy has over 50M dollars and he has campaign donors clean up after his affair(s)? And this sob is an attorney. If anyone knows
about illegality of using campaign funds for this he should.
