The "End of the McCain Era" was declared by Rush Limbaugh earlier this week following Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner's defiant response to President Obama's disingenuous request for bipartisan input on the health care impasse. Limbaugh lauded the Republican unity against the disastrous health care bill and noted that only a year ago, the liberals had proclaimed the Reagan era was over.
Limbaugh is correct on so many fronts of this issue. Boehner's brazen rejoinder to the President's thinly-veiled insincerity was surely a refreshing break from the McCainian instinct to immediately reach across the aisle. The Republican Party has shown a steely resolve the past few months and is finally rejecting the progressive dogma that has led the party to super-minority status.
Notably absent from the recent discourse of Republican affairs is RNC Chairman Michael Steele. In his effort to steer the GOP to the center, Steele ended up on the wrong side of the Scozzafava/Hoffman debacle and was completely astray throughout Scott Brown's remarkable campaign. While Steele, who suggested last month that Republicans could not retake the House in November, now wallows in irrelevency, several strong conservatives have stepped up and seemingly taken control of the direction of the GOP.

And not a moment too soon.
I wish McCain would retire gracefully and grow roses or something.
Oh, and take his daughter with him.
Indeed, and about time!
Enough of the RINOs!!
And an election to late.
I so totally agree with this. I live in Arizona.
McCain’s campaign here is joke. His wife is off in California promoting the gay rights thing. His daughter is trashing the Tea Party movement. He threw his base under the bus during the elections.
Meanwhile, JD with his radio show has demonstrated where he stands even interviewing Orly Taitz over the eligibilty issue. His topics are congruent with the conservative-tea party axis.
MCcAin is a non starter and he is toast. Give me a break!
Good post. Thanks for this one pissant.
It ended two years too late.
We have drawn the line in the sand.
No use talkin'.
We'll wait it out until November, 2010 and 2012. . . unless he shoots first. . .
When is the primary?
I liked Krauthammer’s suggestion: Choose ONE well spoken Republican who knows the Republican healthcare plan inside-out, someone who will stand their ground and not give in or let 0bama steal the show and have THAT person deal with 0bama. (which is exactly what I thought should happen! WOW! I’m on Krauthammer’s wavelength! LOL!)
august 24th :D
I think Cantor is the guy.
As Meghan Mc would say, "Totally".
John McCain has made it his signature to "reach across the aisle" to his "dear friends" while paying no attention to the fact that it means he's turned his back on both those with whom he claims to share party affiliation and all freedom loving Americans.
Since he evidently covets the friendship and approval of Democrats far more than that of conservatives he merely looks a fool calling himself a Republican.
It makes him look as if he's naive...like a child, he believes he can be "popular" with everyone.
Go live off your wife's money before your "dear friends" confiscate it, McLame.
Not to mention SCOTUS *finally* striking down the worst aspect of McCain/Feingold, that being prohibiting *political* free speech in an election cycle. Russ Feingold is livid, as expected, and are the Dems (as expected) ... but where is McCain in all this? Nowhere to be found.
McCain made a pact with the Devil in 'reaching across the aisle' on CFR, and it has come back to bite him, big time.
Eschew JUANnabies!
What Rush misses completely is it is Republicans loss and minority status that is making them oppose democrats. Republicans in charge will go back to trying to make deals to 'get things done'
Still love it when Rush kicks McCain.
Their limp-wristed, socialism lite was wrong for the US and we showed them that we finally had had enough in 2006 and 2008.
McCain is like waaaay too many politicians, staying in office long after he should have retired.
I don't think the RINO wing of the GOP has received and acknowledged receipt of the message.
