Should convicted felons be given a second chance? Barack Obama thinks so, and he thinks the tax payers should have to foot the bill. He made his view on this issue more than evident during a town hall meeting in Elyria, Ohio on January 22nd. Here is a excerpt from this Ohio town hall meeting, where a 29 year old felon who has never had a job in his life asks Obama if he will help felons get a job:
Jerome the felon asks Obama: Im 29 years old, and Ive never had a job in my life. I went to jail when I was younger. Its like hard to get a job as a felon. Is this any programs that hire people with felonies like something that because its sad, its like 29 years old, Im 29.

Obama didn't have a job at 29 so he should be an expert at this !
51% of the people in federal prison are there because of drugs. The US has the largest % of our population in prison of any modern country.
And yet I could still go out and buy anything I wanted without a problem.
That tax payer money sure is being used effectively isn’t it?
hahahahahaha
Here in Michigan you can vote if you’re no longer incarcerated, on parole or probation. That’s fine with me but that one is up to the individual state.
Maine and vermont allow voting in prison. That’s nuts in my opinion.
If someone has served whatever sentence or punishment and been a good and productive citizen after so many months or years, I would have no problem with a second chance. I would draw the line on sex offenders and violent crimes.
Just for the record, I’m not a felon.
People screw up though. Some screwups are larger than others. I was fortunate to be overseas in my drinking days without access to a vehicle.
I see the govt using this to control more Americans. Making things into crimes that did not used to be, and making minor problems into major offenses. BO is trying to tie 2nd amendment rights to making student loan payments. Late on a payment and you lose your right to possess a weapon. Get caught and you’re now a felon.
I need a citation there please, link?
I’m not against felons getting a break, but my fear is a whole lot of them will get a break they don’t deserve at our peril. My son in law has a 12 year old felony on his record for something stupid he did as a kid. He’s been a model citizen ever since and is very responsible.
The warden at the prison he was at (made forced required) that if you did not have a high school diploma, you did nothing else until you got your GED. When you were not on your work shifts you studied a trade. So in that sense he did get help.
voting in prison? That’s a little over the top.
“I would draw the line on sex offenders and violent crimes.”
True in most cases. However the libs have screwed that up too. There was a high school kid who mooned someone and suddenly he’s a sex offender.
Get in a fight defending yourself and that qualifies as a violent crime.
The issue as I see it isn’t second chance, with Obama. It’s more a case of preferential treatment for felons over non-felons using tax dollars because it is, on balance, racially redistributive.
BO is trying to federalize the student loan system. There was an article about him tying payments to 2nd amendment. I’ll see if I can find it.
Here is the official transcript of the meeting, I think the conversation is about half way down the page.

Many thanks!
Appreciate it.
I looked it up yesterday. I knew about Maine but I didn’t realize that Vermont allowed it.
Agreed. The change in the way prison inmates are counted in the census appears to be a race thing as well.
If he wants a second chance...EARN IT!
Show that you’re responsible. Take an entry level job or worse. Show up every day..on time...ready to work...with a good attitude.
I’ve never been convicted of a felony, and I have done some very very nasty work for just above minimum wage for the money to pay my bills.
