President Obama to deliver U-M spring 2010 commencement address
President Barack Obama has been announced as the Commencement speaker for the spring graduation at my alma mater, the University of Michigan. President Obama will receive an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree.
Now, those who read my blog know I am no big fan of Obama’s. That said, I am always proud to hear that the President is coming to my University.
No matter my disagreements, of which there are many, Mr. Obama is still our President, and should be treated as such. The office is larger than the man.
I have seen liberals ill treat past Presidents visiting the University of Michigan. I remember terrible treatment by the student body when President George H.W. Bush came to campus for commencement. It was an embarrassment.
I know that conservatives on campus (the few that there are) are quite angry about this. I say put aside your anger. The office of the President is more important than any anger at one man. You can show your objections, but do it quietly and honorably. Notre Dame had a more disruptive protest early last year because of Obama’s pro-abortion stance. Understandable, no doubt, but it achieved nothing.
I think conservative members of the U-M student body can and will do better.
OMG......look what he did to Notre Dame. We’re going to go 2 and 10 next year...........
