"I want to create a new electoral math. I don't want to practice division, I want to practice addition.'' -Obama
While new math may have been a dismal failure in public schools, Obamas electoral new math has succeeded stupendously for him. It led to his victory in Iowa over Hillary and eventually to the White House. He wanted additional voters and he got them. For example, when the time came to caucus in Iowa, over half the attendees were first timers who mainly supported Obama.
As a strategy, it was laughable. Think George McGovern. It was a desperate ploy from a politician without hope of winning. Hillary had a lock on the traditional Iowa caucus-goers so Obama really had no other choice but to expand the pool.
Surprisingly, the answer to how he pulled off this trick goes largely unnoticed. It has less to do with his race and more to do with his broken family. Obama expanded the one pool of voters that had eluded politicians for years, single females. What better vehicle to validate the lifestyles and values of the large and growing pool a single mothers than the son of one who had risen high enough to run for president. Finally, the democrats had found a way to sell their product, government dependency that would get its largest target audience to the polls in droves.
It is this pool of voters that was largely responsible for his electoral victories and it is this pool of voters that will decide whether he gets to serve a second term. Just look at the graph below showing a 41 point spread for Democrats over Republicans with a segment representing a quarter of the voting population:

Iowa caucuses are the most corrupt voting precincts in the country.
When Dean won Iowa, fat swimmer rolled into town, kicked Gephardt to the curb and gave all his votes to Kerry.
This time O had people in attendance who intimidated the caucus folks into voting for him. Face to face the folks in Iowa were not about to be deemed racist.
When Howard Dean railed against Iowa he knew exactly what he was talking about.......and that was before he ran for president.
Interesting, thanks for the link. Additionally this provides some insight into longer term trends regarding single moms and family structure going into the next decade.
I never hear it mentioned much when talking about the last democrat caucus...but I had a female friend that was VERY active in the caucus....and there was a HUGE ANTI-hillary movement amongst the democrats here that obama took advantage of...
Anne Coulter predicted this, and pointed out it’s folly.
Women voting on feel-good things such as “He’s in great shape” and “I feel for him”.
It gave us Kennedy, and now Obama. Of course Obama also has the Clinton “He’s cute” voting record provided by women.
... A sentiment I will NEVER understand.
The modern electorial system was rigged by Dems for Dems after the Debacle for Dems of 1972. The GOP is just too STUPID to come up w/ it’s own system so they STUPIDLY went along with the Dems Schedule. I HATE THE GOP sometimes.
I am glad you enjoyed the article.
While most of us have an inkling of these trends, the graphs really put it into shocking perspective. They are a real eye opener to the motivation behind a lot that has and will happen.
A big weakness of the right is not having a long term perspective and strength of will to combat the relentless leftist assault on our society.
You are spot on about Iowa caucuses being corrupt not only the caucus goers but also the people that win them. Below is a link to an article discussing the strong correlation between rank on the Judicial Watch corruption list and performance in Iowa:

When you figure out his appeal, let me know because I am still scratching my head. It does not matter because he was not packaged to be sold to our crowd.
I do buy the “Cute” angle somewhat (if you like jug ears). Obama is in good shape, dresses up, and can flash a smile at will. I just cannot shake the feeling that there are other buttons being pushed.
It would have been a real eye opener to be in on some of the focus groups that were held with these single women such as the ones described in the GQR campaign:
“First, Greenberg Quinlan Rosner developed a sophisticated research program to understand this large, diverse, and disengaged audience. Then, using advanced web-testing techniques, we developed messages that resonated with unmarried women and which were used in the telephone scripts and direct mail advertising that would prompt them to register to vote and cast ballots on election day.”
My suspicion is that he was sold more as a son and/or father to the unwed mom crowd: The son who validates my poor lifestyle choice by succeeding despite the long odds or the daddy that I never had to take care of me. Obama , the male figure who cares about me and will never abandon me.
