Why is Medina doing well?

Debra Medina's surprising success in the Texas Republican primary for Governor seems to be driven more by anti-establishment sentiment than ideology.

Among GOP voters who think Congressional Republicans are too liberal Rick Perry still leads with 41% to 34% for Medina and just 17% for Kay Bailey Hutchison. Medina certainly does better with those voters than she does with the overall electorate but it's not enough to put her ahead of the incumbent.

Among GOP voters who just generally disapprove of Congressional Republicans though Medina goes into the lead with 37% to 32% for Perry and 22% for Hutchison. Those are the folks who are just plain unhappy with the establishment and she can win with them.

Does that mean the success of the Tea Party movement generally relies more on anti-establishment feelings than ideology? Hard to say. When we polled Kentucky in December Rand Paul was up 44-24 overall. With primary voters who felt Congressional Republicans were too liberal he lead 54-18. With ones who generally just didn't like Congressional Republicans he led by a pretty similar 55-21 margin.

I'll be interested to see the data on those fronts when we finally poll Florida, and also as more of these viable Tea Party candidacies emerge.

Because she’s not Perry and she’s not Hutchison?

Two completely different situations.

Perry is a two term incumbent so she basically is picking up the anti-incumbent voter

I am a Perry supporter, and don’t understand Medina or KBH. Why any voter in TX wants to change a state that is one of the most prosperous in the nation is beyond me.

two things that make me kinda wonder about Perry. (1) the vaccine thing. Recommending vaccines is one thing; making them _mandatory_ is going too far. What if a girl doesn’t need it because she is not sexually active? They’re making the assumption that she’s going to be. Completely unfair. (2) The Trans-TX. Corridor. Do we really need to do that, do we have the money to do it, and why should we do it?

I heard Medina is not only a RonPaulian, but an open borders supporter.

“I am a Perry supporter, and don’t understand Medina or KBH. Why any voter in TX wants to change a state that is one of the most prosperous in the nation is beyond me.”

Because Perry 1) has made the state almost as vulnerable fiscally as other states by going along with huge spending increases during his time in office, 2. the margins tax, 3. his failure to radically restrain the property tax, 4. the fascist vaccine fiasco, 5. his signing of “hate” crimes legislation, 6. TTC, 7. his lack of leadership in preventing ever more money flowing to the corrupt, destructive, and leftist controlled educational establishment, and 8. his pathetic record on border enforcement. There is more, but this should be enough.

I’ll vote for Perry if I have to in the final, and he is a little better than KBH, but I’d rather have someone who sincerely holds principles that I mostly agree with and a who has a spine to someone with that really valuable experience that comes from a lifetime in politics.

Because KBH is a pro-death open borders bailout RINO, and Rick Perry has the TTC and business franchise tax (paid on gross revenue) hanging around his neck like an albatross. They're both status-quo RINOS.

Medina, OTOH, is an ordinary citizen candidate. She's been the subject of a lot of AM radio disinformation in Houston, yet continues to climb in the polls.

I went to one of her campaign appearances with Sheriff Mack, liked what I saw & heard, and I support her.

You heard wrong. GOP operatives are spreading lies and disinformation about Medina.

I think your tagline says it all.

If you heard the nasty campaign ads of the other candidates slashing at each other, you’d probably vote for Medina too.

She doesn’t have any ads to speak of and it probably helps.

I don’t know how either Perry or Hutchison can win if they keep roughing each other up.

The Dem candidates are just letting them go at each other. Why get involved when the opponenets are doing your work.?

people are talking.

People are not afraid to openly state they will not support a RINO.

People know RINO=democrat. They are pointing i t out to fellow voters regardless of what the MSM says.

Brown had it ALL against him EXCEPT the voters. The RNC viewed brown as a disposable candidate in a no win seat.

Now the RNC is scared the RINOs are costing them votes but only want to show louder “vote for the rino”

Well now we know why Medina is doing well among certain seeming not traditional conservative groups.

She’s a truther.
