Obama Doubletalk, Part 2: Recess Appointments

In an ongoing theme today, President Obama threatened Republicans that he would use recess appointments for several nominees that are being held up by Republican Senators.

"In our meeting I asked the congressional leadership to put a stop to these holds in which nominees for critical jobs are denied a vote for month," he said. "Surely we can set aside partisanship and do what's traditionally been done with these nominations."

"If the Senate does not act, and I made this very clear," Obama continued, "I will consider making several recess appointments during the upcoming recess because we can't afford to let politics stand in the way of a well functioning government."

Funny...Barack Obama wasn't so pleased with recess appointments a few years ago. When the Senate held up John Bolton's nomination to be our representative to the United Nations, Obama was more than happy to criticize it.

“Surely we can set aside partisanship and do what’s traditionally been done with these nominations.”

He is even dumber than I thought. Does he forget how the Democrats held up all of President Bush’s nominations.?

Perhaps if he nominated without his racist and liberal bias he could get someone appointed.

Hussain and the dims should remember this the next time we have a conservative president (hopefully in 2013).

Recess appointments only last until January 2011 ... Let him do it, and do it again.

Like what Democrats did with John Bolton.

Two can play this game:

In a session that lasted under a minute, Sen. Jim Webb, D-Virginia, opened and then immediately gaveled closed the Senate.

His sole reason for doing so was to block President Bush from naming controversial “recess appointments” — a constitutional mechanism that allows the president, during congressional recesses, to fill top government posts for up to one year and avoid Senate confirmation.

0bama’s had over a year with a Congressional super-majority to get his appointments confirmed.

The failure to so do points to a lack of leadership.

To compensate for a dearth of leadership, 0bama will embrace hypocrisy by using the very recess appointments for which he criticized President Bush.

HA! The dems held up Bush’s court nominees for nearly the whole 8 years he was in office...over a hundred of them, from what I heard!

Isn’t it the majority that opens and closes sessions?

If so, there is nothing Republicans can do except remind Americans over and over that the Democrats held up Bush appointments and kept one official in DC to open and close so that Bush couldn’t use recess appointments.

In some ways, the Dems hold all the cards, but we should play the ones we have to our advantage.

IN ALL WAYS the Dems hold all the cards. That is why this little gimmick of blaming the Republicans this time around for stalling anything will just be laughed at by many. The Dems were out of power in Congress for about 4 years and in those 4 years, they stalled everything they could. Why should they expect anything less right now?

Don’t forget that an election day survey of voters showed that many of them had no idea that Democrats controlled Congress at the time.

The MSM will not remind the voters of the Dems hypocrisy, it is up to Republicans when they have the public’s attention to do it over and over and over. It is the only card they have to play right now.
