It seems that a celebrated Provincetown resident is going to jail for child pornography. And P-Town residents are up in arms about it.

John Perry Ryan is scheduled to be sentenced in Braintree, VT, on Monday on three counts of transporting child pornography. In June of last year he plea bargained six counts down to three, while admitting guilt to emailing a variety of explicit child porn photos to several people...

And yet. Letters of support for Ryan are pouring in from Provincetown: According to his supporters, he is “…a person who has dedicated his adult life to improving the lot of the least fortunate,”a man who is “fighting for people who had no voice,” and someone who “took extraordinary care of his mother.”

Please. That’s what Roman Polanski’s pals said, too...

folks, this story needs to spread far and fast. Please share as widely as possible so that a child pornographer gets the jail sentence he deserves.

There are libertarians here of course and people tell me I need help when I criticize articles where a teacher has sex with a child and things like that. I remember a flame war a long time ago here on FR where some said it was ‘art’.

Its my impression over years and years more than anything that the standards have fallen, even for “our side”.

Not only are there Freepers who will defend pedophiles, there is one who insists you need court permission to deny a suspected pedophile access to children...on thread after thread.

I realize this is only the prosecutors claim, but, holy crap! What happened to this guy to turn him into such a freak!

Don’t really care whether he’s a gay rights activist or not. He’s a child pornographer. He plead guilty. He needs to go to jail.
