Bill O'Reilly's Culture Warriors Support Homosexuals In the Military: FOX News Tacking To The Left?
RFFM.org ^ | January 29, 2010 | Daniel T. Zanoza

Posted on 01/29/2010 5:50:23 AM PST by Daniel T. Zanoza

As expected, during his first State of the Union address, Barack Obama called for the lifting of the military's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy which would allow homosexuals to openly serve in the U.S. Armed Forces. The only problem for Obama and the far left wing of the Democratic Party is this would take an act of Congress because the Uniform Code of Military Justice would have to be twisted to allow Obama's plan to be implemented.

Most members of the U.S. Armed Forces, especially those in command positions, recognize that homosexuals openly serving in the military would have a negative impact on morale, esprit de corps and, subsequently, combat readiness.

Amazingly, those who participated in a segment Bill O'Reilly (FOX News Channel's O'Reilly Factor) refers to as "The Culture Warriors" made clear they agreed with Obama's proposal to rescind "Don't ask, don't tell" (DADT). The segment usually includes pro-family conservative Gretchen Carlson who tackles issues from a conservative perspective in contrast to Margaret Hoover who argues the liberal point of view concerning political and social issues.

But on Thursday, January 28th, FOX business anchor Cheryl Casone (who stepped in for Carlson) and FOX News analyst Margaret Hoover both agreed America was ready to have homosexuals openly serve in defense of our nation [Transcript available at: http://www6.lexisnexis.com/publisher/EndUser?Action=UserDisplayFullDocument&orgId=574&topicId=100007214&docId=l:1117180563&isRss=true ]. It was a shocker for me to hear this on FOX News--the "fair and balanced" network. Even O'Reilly fed into the liberal line which suggested it was time for this social experiment to take place. It has become all too evident the network seems to be leaning to the left, in order to appease and attract more liberal viewers. FOX would not want to offend this new demographic which has helped the FOX News Channel's ratings go through the roof.

Mr. O'Reilly, the purpose of the United States Armed Forces is to defend America. It is not a place for social experiments or political correctness. Indeed, the Constitution does not apply in many cases to the U.S. military and FOX News should not be advocating Barack Obama's far left policies.

Unfortunately, the tact to the left is evident, especially on O'Reilly's highly popular primetime program. But, as I wrote in a related column, FNC also seems to have a penchant for supporting moderate Republican candidates. This was made clear in 2008 when Sean Hannity seemed to be shilling for former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and eventual GOP presidential nominee John McCain. At the same time, Hannity took every opportunity to ignore the highly effective and energized grassroots campaigns of former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and U.S. Rep. Ron Paul. Is FOX News becoming MSNBC Light? You certainly couldn't tell what network you were watching on Thursday evening during the Culture Warriors segment. Very sad.

I think Bill O’Reilly is tacking to the left — for sure.

I think O’Reilly likes to take on conservatives to prove he
isn’t biased. Boortz does the same thing.

Maybe Bill needed to have someone on who actually served, in addition to those 2 young ladies.

i do think he tries to get opposing views on those segments. Hoover is definitely a social liberal and bill knows that. gretchen carlson generally is her counterpart in that segment and gretchen is usually much more conservative. cheryl cassone was sitting in for gretchen last night and i don’t know if he knew her views before choosing her or not. They agreed on the gays in the military and even the liberal hoover thought the tebow ad was fine, though she is pro-aborth, cassone has a problem with it.

I think BO has been tracking left for quite awhile now. I also find that the only people who seem to support Gays in the military are civilians.

Are there any other Vets or active duty here on FR that support the idea of Gays serving openly?

I don't know that I have ever seen any ex-military of active duty people who actually support this...

Margaret Hoover supposedly is a Republican strategist. She is an airhead who is very liberal on social issues (her claim to fame is that her great grandfather was Herbert Hoover). But she seemed fairly conservative compared to Casone, who appears to be a female version of Keith Olbermann.

First of all, WTF cares what two ditzy blondes have to say about it? They've never been in the military and never will.
More importantly, they are absolutely clueless to the negative impact this would have.
Culture "Warriors" my @ss.

O’Reilly has always tried to pick and choose which cultural aspects to support and which to reject. He wants to have his cake and eat it too - being libertarian here, conservative there, thus constructing his perfect society.

But unfortunately, that’s not our decision to make, since choices we make here have (sometimes unwanted and often unexpected) effects there. No matter how powerful we become in the game, we still don’t make the rules.

O’Reilly needs to be reminded of this adage from Francis Bacon:

“Nature can only be commanded by being obeyed.”

Has any one of those three moron's ever served a day in the military?

For the life of me, I can't understand how one conservative can watch O’Riley, but then maybe his audience is all liberals, explaining why the other cable news outlets have so few viewers.

Casone, who appears to be a female version of Keith Olbermann.

and she didn't come off as very bright with not understanding why the tebow ad was being shown on the superbowl as opposed to the OSCARS? the OSCARS ??? i mean on what planet would THAT make a better venue?
