What a horrible Sunday! A wretched, horrible, day of loss, as I watched my two teams, the Dallas Cowboys and the San Diego Chargers, sadly, tragically, lose to their opponents on what was sure to be a momentous day of double victory!
Oh the day started off okay - with an endless supply of hope and promise because ... both made it into the NFC and AFC playoffs respectively...
Back home in Texas, football games start in the afternoon - but here on the California coast, I discovered the Dallas Cowboys game was going to start at 10 a.m. ... 10 a.m.! You can't go to church on Sunday morning with that kind of schedule.
Needless to say I didn't go to church. I plopped myself in front of the TV around 9:30 and found the right channel so I wouldn't miss a minute of this eagerly anitcipated event. Playing the Vikings in Minnesota meant the 'boys could lose, but 34 to 3?! It was embarrassing, humilitating, sad, and pathetic. The only good part about it was that it was over.
Shortly thereafter the Chargers were playing the New York Jets so I knew at least one of the teams I was rooting for would be making it into the next playoff round. Wrong! 14 -17 Jets over the Chargers - not in the Meadowlands mind you, but right here in San Diego. OUCH!!!
Now that both teams are done for the season, and people are wondering what will happen to Wade Phillips ... and L.T. ... I'm just wondering ...

The Jets look very scary right now.
That's gotta suck living on the west coast and having to watch games that early. You can't watch an NFL game without beer and 10 AM is too early to start drinking.
Go St. Louis Rams!
All that hoping for change and nothing. Feels kinda like a DUmmie don’t it?
I’m a Cowboy fan too
If the Colts defense can get to Sanchez, and Manning plays more like 2006 AFC Championship Game Manning and not, you know, Annual Playoff Chokeartist Manning, then the Jets are done.
But they earned the trip. They’re winning the right way: great pass defense, efficient passing.
It could be worse. You could be living in New England and be a Patriots fan!
woah ... what’s the story behind that pic?
I here ya bro. I go to the 9am mass to be back by kickoff.
I’m just happy when I get to watch my bolts on television!
Could be worse, you could be a Lions fan.
Obammy declared president for life....
The Jets should be able to run the ball against the Colts a little more than the Chargers ...
Would love to see Farve back in the big game too ...
Sometime after the second quarter, Dallas ran Jones and Barber who made nice gains. I figuered they'd use the running game but they didn't, which I think cost them the game.
The name Emmet Smith comes to mind. I used to recall Dallas as having a huge running game. If they had run more and pounded the V's defense, they might have bought Tony some time in the pocket. When you under-utilize backs like Dallas has, something's wrong.
When plumbers go wild...
I think the absence of Flozell might have more impact than I’d thought. They can’t run when they lose 4 yards a carry and they can’t pass when the QB is being chased on every play.
The Chargers defense hasn’t been very good this season, particularly since losing Jamal Williams. The Colts under Larry Coyer are actually doing a pretty nice job defensively.
The problem is that Peyton Manning chokes in the playoffs. Routinely. Whatever switch he flips on in September gets shut off in January.
