Slick Willy deja vu: Republicans win, we dodge the Alinsky bullet but Obama wins reelection
1/17/2010 | Steeltrap

In Clinton's first two years he governed as though his election was a mandate intead of a split decision. The Democrats controlled both houses of Congress and used that power to follow an overreaching strategy. "We won. Bend over and take your medicine." They proceeded to ignore the rule of holes and almost made it to China by the time 1994 rolled around. Then the tectonic plates shifted and the people fired a bunch of the clowns that participated in the Bubba madness. Gingrich, Armey, DeLay, Kasich and the rest of the team lined up to shove the failed Clinton agenda over the cliff.

The consequence was glorious gridlock and along with it the abandonment of the radical left wing agenda. Wall Street loved it. Main Street sighed in relief. The fear subsided. Switching to survival mode, Clinton changed direction and proved once again he would walk across piles of burning liberals to save his own hide while somehow convincing the same liberals he had nothing to do with their immolation. He survived to win reelection. He took credit for everything good that happened, particularly those tasty things that Republicans forced down his throat. To this day, he takes credit for what was primarily the Republican agenda that he was forced to accept to maintain his viability. Oh and to not get impeached "all the way".

History repeats? Will Obama be able to do the same thing? Hell I hope not. That is why I'm writing this little blurb. I ask my fellow Freepers what steps can we take to make sure there is no repeat.

My coffee drinking buddies, plain old blue collar guys all of us, came up with a list of suggestions, in no order of importance. I say do them all at once.

1) Repeal 10 existing laws for every new law. Everyone is a law-breaker now in some form or fashion. Its BS. Stop it.
2) Investigate, subpoena, convict, imprison anyone and everyone involved with fraud related to the bailouts. Its BS. Stop it.
3) Audit the Fed in real time, not months afterward Its BS. Stop it.
4) Vet the czars. Its BS. Stop it.

What should we do to put a stop to the possibility of a second term that is more likely if our short term plans succeed?

Answer: RecordsGate! Open 's hidden records and this will all go away. But also open another real can of worms.

Clinton was politically cunning enough to realize that if he wanted a second term he would have to strictly temper his ambitions. The Republican majority that swept into power in 1994 corralled him and saved him from his worst tendencies.

Obama is not like Clinton in that regard. He is more like Carter--a self-righteous and unbending ideologue.

It looks like a good start to me. I would add that any elected official found in violation of the US Constitution will do time in prison. I would also do away with public employee unions. While we're at it, viable proof of eligibility to vote, and mandatory prison time for anyone participating in voter or election fraud.

Well, I do share some of the same concerns.

However, Bill Clinton was a MUCH better politician than Obama.

Bill Clinton had better survival skills, as well.

Obama will not “triangulate” any more than the average, arrogant, leftist college professor will show respect to any conservative student who challenges him or her, in the classroom.

Obama KNOWS in his own warped mind, that he is 100% right on everything.

Obama will not change. Obama will not moderate.

Also, Obama is a narcissist, and he will most likely snap under the pressure.

Remember when Obama flipped the bird when Obama talked about Hillary and McCain? The media will be FORCED to cover such crude behavior, this time around.

Obama is not Clinton.

Obama is Carter.

I've worried about this scenario too - before the Tea Parties, Sarah Palin, and grassroots exploded.
Three things to consider:

(1) Obama is a far-leftist radical and he has neither the intelligence nor the patience to adopt Clinton's centrist strategy

(2) The far leftist kooks aren't going to tolerate Zero moving to the middle because they want their agenda passed, and the Tea Partiers will keep the Republicans from going RINO

(3) The days of Republicans nominating and forcing the base to support the old white guy because it's "his turn" are over. I will not vote for any establishment Rockefeller Republicans (including Jeb Bush) or one of the losers from 2008 (including Ron Paul) and so will many of my fellow conservatives.

One step at a time.

Lets make sure we defeat Obamacare first. Then we can work on defeating Obama next.

Bill Clinton had a birth certificate.

Obama doesn't.

If he runs without presenting one, he will be defeated on that basis alone.

I hope Obama is Carter II. I am inclined to agree that he is. I’m just thinking it would be a smart move to treat him as though he was able to channel Willy and prepare a plan that preempted all that which is sure to follow if he surprises us and can do it after all.

The diffence between Slick Willy and The Great Spreader is the difference between a con man and a true believer. Clinton, while a liberal at heart, probably thought most lib ideas, especially about economics, were nonsense. Of course he was right. So he put his finger in the air and turned where the wind turned him.

Obama actually believes that the lib nonsense is true. He is reluctant to turn his back on the Marxist principles he holds so near and dear. That's what will kill his chances for a second term. Undoubtedly there are semi-sane Dem insiders who are pleading with him to loosen his iron grip on the economy. Bill Clinton was more than happy to abandon the principles he never had. Obama, not so much.

clinton raised taxes because he wanted to get rid of the deficit. Obama wants to raise taxes to punish people and couldn’t care less about the deficit.

Yes to 1-4. And..

5) Investigate the fraud known as man-caused global warming to include scientists who altered data to enable getting funding and politicians who used it to forward their progressive-socialist agenda and prosecute the responsible. And while we are at it, prosecute anyone who uses the word “green” to get funding and in the process makes any false representation.

6) End the coordinated subversion of democracy and justice accomplished by spending tax dollars to purchase votes.

7) End the circle jerk fiscal policy of printing money to be used for the purpose of purchasing our own debt.

There is a big difference between 1994 and 2010 called the world wide web. In 94 we counted on our elected representatives to carry the ball. This time we are awake, aware, and watching often in real-time. Woe be to he who drops the ball.
