Obama this morning announced that "the U.S. response to the disaster in Haiti will require 'every element of our national capacity,' including military and civilian forces, to deliver aid" as reported by Roger Runningen and Hans Nichols for Bloomberg:
The president, making a statement at the White House, said he told government agency and department heads that rescue and relief efforts in Haiti "must be a top priority." The U.S. will put $100 million into relief efforts, Obama said.
Spreading generosity and compassion thoughout the world is all well and good but what about making the disasterous American economy -- you know, the economy with a true unemployment rate of 22%, record home foreclosures, a $12 trillion national debt, a looming dollar crisis -- a "top priority" for U.S. agencies? No doubt the $100 million pledged by Obama -- on top of all the manpower resources directed out of the United States into Haiti -- is just the beginning. As the old saying goes: the cobbler's children are always shoeless.

The man is insane. 22nd amendment anyone? What about us!
57th State?
Raila Odinga's favorite cousin doesn't give a rat's ass about the Fort Hood murders, and he doesn't even wear a necktie when he is speaking to the media some 3 days after a black muslim tried to blow up an airliner.
But yeah, Haiti is the priority, right?
maybe Detroit should be his top priority..
Such generosity with other peoples’ money taken at the point of a gun if necessary to induce compliance.
Giving away stolen money is top priority. No matter where, no matter why.
what is not considered a top priorty?
National Security first you black communists Muslim fool.
He is such a racist. He focuses on Haiti while in the USA there are many, many problems that need correction.
Americans have stepped up and generously donated to Haiti. Our government has made resources available (ships, planes, Marines, etc.) because fast reaction is required.
But sending over a big pile of taxpayer money is not what our government ought to do. Citizens can do that. the UN can do that. Venezuela can do that. But the US taxpayers should not be forced to donate to non-US citizens.
That depends on your skin color. Also, don't forget that the US is not a Christian county, according to barry. How much help do Muslim countrys give to disaster victims?

I’d rather he not try to solve any problems here. We just need to be left alone. Way too much “help” from D.C. as it is. That’s the problem.

Just a messed up place.
The hearts and prayers of Americans always go out to those who suffer catastrophic events. Haiti is but the most recent example. American people and treasure are already flowing into that sad place, made sadder still by this earthquake.
Of course, as Barack Obama spent his first year in office reminding the entire world, America is just like all the other nations out there and we are a most unremarkable people.
Id remind him that the wealth which we are now about to pour into Haiti is the result of the superior and productive political and economic system left us by some wise and far-sighted men over 240 years ago. How sad that Obama is well on the way to destroying it.
The persistent poverty in places like Haiti is a product of the inferior systems the people of far too many of those nations continue to tolerate. I dont know much about the human beings at the top of the current Haitian food chain but situations of this sort have, in the past, caused a huge surge in the quantity of numbered accounts in Swiss banks. I hope that doesnt happen in this situation. If it should, I hope the decent members of the Haitian population conduct public hangings of those involved.
As one commentator recently remarked, Haiti could easily join the other wealthy tourist spots in the Caribbean were it not for their unfortunate inability to move out of the 18th century.
If any good can come from this disaster, perhaps it will be that they will reexamine their social and economic model and rebuild their homeland in ways that will permit ALL of their citizens to participate and prosper.
You know, we may have problems in this country, but compared to Haiti, they're nothing.
People think that having to forgo cable TV or only having one flat-screen TV is a "crisis."
I'm sorry, there is no poverty in America. Haiti is real poverty. The poorest American lives like a king compared to the average Haitian.
We don't need the government to solve our problems, Haiti on the other hand, is a whole other kettle of fish.
My fear is that we'll sink millions into the same half-assed measures that won't change a damn thing. If we're going to do this, let's do it right. Occupy the country, rebuild the infrastructure like we did Europe after WWII. Arrest the bums who ran the country into the ground. And if the UN and "World Opinion" don't like it, screw them! Now to those that would say this is "Nation Building". I say to that, if we don't do it, we will deal with thousands coming on our shores in Florida, with more drowning in the attempt, that will make Mariel look like nothing.
He’s just glad he found a distraction to take the heat of himself.
Truthfully, they are people of color and a sonderful way to DISTRACT us from healthcare and GIVE OUT MORE OF YOUR MONEY. Obama has NO COMPASSION for ANYONE but himself.
