Busy weather week coming up, just like the way things have been here since the holidays. Glad things are slowing down a bit so I can provide you with the latest updates again. Well, I don’t need to tell many of you just how cold it has been since the first of the year as you, like I, have been experiencing it. But really, just how cold has it been? Since the 1st of January, more than 2,900 winter related records have been tied or broken.

It was a negative 15 F here in eastern Lake Ontario country yesterday morning. The bluejays were towing the chickadees to get them started and all were miffed because the towel warmer was busted. sd

It was a very comfortable 35 today, so we made the last 10- yard pour of concrete sidewalk on our building project. We’ll put some blankets over it, and,

LET
IT
SNOW!!!!

WOW!

The coldest I ever felt was -38, in Moose Pass. What on Earth does -60 feel like??

When I lived in AK I always thought I should take the train up to Fairbanks when it was having -50 temps, just to see what that feels like, but sadly I never got the chance before I moved Outside to Yellowstone.

Feels like more change from minus 30 to minus 60, than 30 degrees.

Burns nose, eyelids freeze together forever breaking ice off, and ya don't start anything when that cold. Dogs don't want outside, sit home feed the woodstoves, watch dish, play guitar, hope no problems. Propane quits running at minus 38, oil gels, got to keep everything simple.

It's minus 52 at the house now, 2 pm, but wife said it was minus 58 at school, always colder in low spots near river. I've seen it minus 76 once out with dogteam on river; did a 50 mile run and it was bitter. I've heard from good source of minus 82, persons truck just quit running, maybe frose up.

Look on yahoo weather, type in Eagle, Ak. You’ll see I speak the truth. It’s minus 54 F at 5 pm suppertime. It was minus 60 at Post Office this morn, probably colder in morn.

Not doubting you. Your area is in the dark steel colored regions. Much colder then Fairbanks, but not with a town big enough to get shown on their map. Some places set a low temp record the past few days.

For example - Fort Yukon at -54 F right now. Close to its record low of - 56 F for this date. RAWS BEAVER (WBQ) AK US, Fort Yukon, Alaska (PWS)

Eagle has shattered their low temp record for today. Was - 34 F in 2005 on this date. Currently - 54 F. Something nasty is brewing in your area.
History for Eagle, AK

We get a week or two of this every jan, actually quite typical. But man come july, it’s 80 and never gets dark.

I figured you thought I was making it up, ha.

Take a look at that map image later tonight. Just refresh the thread. Fairbanks will drop dramatically close to your temps later tonight. Stay liquid !

I was talking to one of my indian buddies upriver in Dawson earlier today. They are on the river like us, but only minus 30 he said. My son at UAF said it was minus 30 today in Fairbnks. We are in a depression here in Eagle, always weather stays for days.
