Why is it a mistake to NOT pay a credit card over the phone. I refuse to do so and have never done a payment to a CC by phone EVER.
I will NOT make CC payments over the phone. There is no law that says payments must be made by phone.
You don't mention who is resolving this. If Chase is doing it, I'd consider myself extremely lucky that it only took 45 minutes.
Now if Chase is the card issuer and where you Bank at, I'd switch banks ASAP.
In these kind of uncertain financial times, it's not a good idea to bank at the same place you owe money to. Many have cross-collateralization clauses in lending agreements and can seize funds anytime you get in arrears.
Chase is bizarre.
My friend ran his card up to $10,000.00 because he was out of work and trying something new. The interest rate was 13 percent.
He was paying above the minimum and on time so Chase raised the interest rate to 23 percent.
I loaned him $5000.00 to get his balance down and after he made that payment they raised the interest to 30 percent.
He almost has the rest paid off plus he is paying me back religiously. I told him to get a Discover card.
“The people who will be deafened by your rudeness are just people trying to work a job and get a paycheck.”
So were the guards keeping the Jews from escaping Nazi death camps. “Just doing my job” is no excuse for any bad behavior.
Good questions.
First of all, I assume you are not a delinquent bill payer. Who has his card denied due to late payments like the dil-hole who posted this thread.
But for someone who is past due, it serves as good faith to resolve the delinquency immediately over the phone. To tell the CSR that you will pay later is viewed as doubtful.
And for someone who does not even believe that 19 days past due is the same as 19 days delinquent tells me he probably has a history of chronic delinquency.
As you see; William Dil-hole has a bad attitude - not just with me - but with other FReepers who have tried to correct him.
Again.... You and I don’t have to be forced into paying over the phone. We are responsible people.
Well, I’m going to cancel the card just on the basis of the poor customer service.
American Express is light years ahead of them. You call them and you get someone who isn’t from India and when you do get someone from America, unlike the Chase rep, they understand the problem and fix it.
This is the reason I stopped buying H-P computers and switched to Dell ( although they’re not that great either.)
No I don’t have a bad attitude I just don’t like being insulted by people who don’t know what they’re talking about.
People like you who are so stupid and who are so anxious to prove their moral superiority they just shoot off their mouths.
Fortunately, for every nitwit like you, there are five Freepers who actually responded intelligently.
Your initial post was:” No, the moral of this story is to pay your bills on time. Otherwise you VOLUNTARILY give control of your finances to others. If this deadbeat would care to read his contract, he might find that Chase has the right to Setoff. That means that if he is delinquent on a payment, then Chase can transfer the payment from his checking account.”
There isn’t one factually accurate assertion you made nor was there any reason to presuppose what you did.
You are an insulting, arrogant, sanctimonius, supercilious **shole who should be ashamed of yourself.
Of course, that would require you to have character and integrity which judging from your posts you certainly do not have.
You’re a fool - plain and simple. Go get a life ( and probably a job).
Typo on my part - I meant to say Well after 45 minutes..
The “payment research team” at Chase - whatever that is - gave me a straight answer.
The bureaucratic bungling is incredible. The fact that Chase may be doing something illegal is even more so.
What’s even more astonishing is the sheer stupidity of someone like Responsibility2nd
I don’t cancel cards, it has a bad effect on one’s credit score. Just let it hibernate is my advice. I like AX but they’ve cancelled some cards on us recently because we weren’t using them. BTW both my husband and I have high credit scores but the cancellations dropped the scores down a little.
We have Capital One, Discover, Citizen’s Bank, Pentagon Federal Credit Union, American Express, Bank of America, Fidelity, GM, Chase and GM. We use them to get airline miles or for balance transfers at low or zero interest.
The recording is made to protect them AND YOU.
With some companies that may be true. IMHO with Chase AND should be replaced by NOT.
LOL. I totally read that as "Well" anyway. Weird.
"The payment research team at Chase - whatever that is - gave me a straight answer."
The fact that they have something call the payment research team speaks volumes.
"The bureaucratic bungling is incredible. The fact that Chase may be doing something illegal is even more so."
Like I pointed out in a previous post, the online bill payment features with most banks and credit unions hold the money for several days when you make the payments. Clearly this is done for the sole purpose of squeezing out every fraction of a cent of profit on your money. That same payment made at the payee's website, is credited, and pulls the funds right away. Whether this holding of funds deal is illegal or not, don't know.
An unauthorized withdrawal by some non-affiliated entity is a different matter, but really, what's going to happen. Most customers let it slide figuring they were going to pay it anyway. And that's exactly what Chase wants you to do.
"Whats even more astonishing is the sheer stupidity of someone like Responsibility2nd"
Ignore him.
My mailman gave me my neighbor's mail last week! I'm gonna write a blog about it and post it on legit political/news forums. I'll ping all of you.
thefactor: Obviously you took time out of your serious news reading to read this! 8-)
I’ve heard canceling cards has an adverse affect on credit scores. I must admit. I don’t understand the logic of it though.
This card was opened so I could get Amtrak points. Incredible how it worked.
Thanks for the feedback.
Yeah, it also received something like 1400 views.
I have a Chase Mastercard that was issued through Amazon. When the card came it had a $50,000 credit limit, which I thought was way too much for something that I might carry in my wallet, so I asked them to reduce it. They refused, so I asked that the card be cancelled. They won’t do that either. So I have never taken it out of the safe. Strange is an understatement.
Yes, I do.
