Here is video of MSNBC's Ed Schultz announcing that Democrat Sen. Byron Dorgan will not seek re-election in this November's mid-term election.
Dorgan joins Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd in dropping out of the 2010 election. Dorgan was trailing in polls against potential challengers.
Ed Schultz said "this a a big blow to the Democratic Party." A.B. Stoddard told Schultz that this is going to be a "tough year for Democrats."
As we pointed out yesterday, the Generic Congressional Ballot is swinging heavily toward the Republicans, which may trigger an avalanche of Democratic "retirements" by incumbents rather than face defeat.

Good news and bad news. Glad to see them go, but without political pressure on these and other potential retirees, who knows what kind of crap they’ll come up with in conference.
Dodd dropped out??? I hadn’t heard. Now Dorgan. And we don’t have the party banners up on Free Republic?
How many times can you say, fighter for the middle class, yeah fighting to get their wallets.
Pray for America’s Freedom
Save the banners for when all 60 of the communists resign.
Seeing Dorgan and Dodd leave the Senate? Priceless.
What’s funny is that, after donning my hazmat suit, I ventured into enemy territory and the DUmmies are actually overjoyed by this. They view him as conservative and are looking forward to a “progressive” candidate keeping the seat blue. But then again, they consider the Castro and Chavez moderates. What do we know about Blumenthal?
Oh, cry me a river, Eddie...
Actually not priceless in my opinion. Dorgan...fine...but Dodd leaving is actually not a good thing. That was going to be an easier pick up with him there than with him gone. Now that it won't be him...chances of some other Dim hack keeping the seat have increased.
Would have been MUCH better to see him leave via the ballot box than on his own volition.
Don’t party yet, Ed is usually wrong.
I bet there is a list of Dems who are about to retire — planned long ago, the expendables among the party, who can ‘lose their jobs’ in order to pass HealthCareRipOff.
What is the difference if he “decides not to run?” He is not going to be re-elected if he runs. So what if he announces that fact ahead of time or doesn’t? It is his non-re-election that is a “blow to the Democratic(sic) Party.”
Used to have a supplier who said they "stand behind you".
The reason they "stand behind you" is because that is where you keep your wallet.
The voters just need to have Dodd attached at the hip to whichever Dim runs for the office. And I expect that whichever Dim runs will be a Dodd clone anyway. Sounds like there might be a few good candidates on the Republican/Conservative side, so that should help.
he certainly is loud...isn’t he?
Is trhere some way for the good people of N. Dakota to start a petition to urge Dorgan to vote against cloture on the Obamacare bill, after it comes out of reconciliation..?
Agreed. They can pass that and worse.........
