Educate for a Better Economy

Sarah Carlsruh, December 11, 2009

“The unemployment rate is 10 percent but businesses are struggling to fill 2.6 million jobs because applicants lack required skills” observed a December 12th Politico article.

In an effort to remedy this disconnect, the Business Roundtable recently launched The Springboard Project, an effort by a group of education and business leaders to develop policy recommendations to improve U.S. education and work training. According to their December report, “the United States ranks second-to-last among developed nations in postsecondary completion rates.”

William D. Green, chairman of The Springboard Project said that: “Improving education is essential to building a better trained and skilled workforce” and that the gap between available jobs and qualified applicants will increase unless “the nation’s educational system isn’t changed to reflect the type of skills employees will need in the future and the impediments that are driving graduation rates down.” Among the Board’s recommendations are to

- “[i]ncrease postsecondary education and training attainment rates,”

- “[e]mpower students and workers by creating nationally portable workforce skill credentials,” and

- “[b]uild on the untapped potential of community colleges and two-year institutions.”...

If there are really 2.6 million jobs unfilled because of educational insufficiency why then are we inviting illiterate 3rd worlders into our country? Methinks this is another sales pitch for union teachers. You know those unions they do good things.

I am very distrustful of this ... I seriously doubt that the missing skills can be obtained by getting a BA in Queer Studies or whatever it is they teach in colleges now.

I have met a number of waiters and waitresses who have bachelor degrees and cannot find work in their field that pays as much as waiting tables. Sad state of affairs we have. Those jobs come and go, with no benefits either.

STEP 1: DISMANTLE THE U.S.DEPARTMENT OF INDOCTRINATION — err — EDUCATION!

STEP 2: HALT THE INSANE BUSSING AND RETURN TO NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOLS. HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS SAVE COULD BE USED AS REWARDS FOR TEACHERS WHO REALLY TEACH (THE THREE “Rs” AND NOT THE PC CRAP NOW BEIND DISPENSED.

There’s much more but you get the idea. But if you don’t, here’s a short video to explain it further:

whatever it is they teach in colleges now.

If you don't know what they teach in college, how can you doubt that the missing skills can be obtained through higher education? Also, what is Queer Studies and what does it have to do the author's believe that the populous is missing skills that higher education may provide?

WE need to educate for a better government!

Lets look at black america the single most statistically misrepresentative segment of America.... a nation of rapper/ ebonics fool dropout dope dealing bums. Its this ideal set which 100% wholeheartedly supported “the one”. Unwavering support cuzz they thought they would get all this “wealth redistribution” (and reparations talk they were weaned on) which was and is not the same as what Obama envisions. Big trick lie!

Worst part is Obama IS out there to give away America on a
global basis.

“The unemployment rate is 10 percent but businesses are struggling to fill 2.6 million jobs because applicants lack required skills”

Bull. The problem is that hiring managers no longer understand the difference between a college education plus experience vs. a trade school education targeted at whatever the supposed hot skill is this week. There are plenty of people out there who can do whatever needs to be done. Businesses are stupid and/or lying.

I agree hero. Education is the key and if we do not understand that we risk becoming a third world nation. Can improvements be made in our education system? Yes. Saying higher education is of no benefit or that it won’t help us rise from the economic and political disasters this country faces, is absurd. Thanks for your comment.

Education is a key. Free enterprise is another key. Entrepreneurial skills? Cannot be taught. Its a component of the private sector an the free market... the real job creator.

Whats the Government going to do? Appoint a czar for creation of entrepreneurs?

All the government has bee doing is destroying the soils that yield jobs. They have perverted the job market and the taxpayers dollars by saying we shall become the employer.

Education is just one component of the philosophy of success.

They are many who claim it can be taught. I agree with you. What an entrepreneur wants is FREEDOM. any of that going around lately?

How about saying, schools, you will have to compete for your students. We in the govt are NOT here to solve your problem.

There is a certain but limited amount of truth there... I can teach you how to play piano. Anyone can learn. We can teach a monkey to play. But to p l a y it with feeling, character, emotion and finesse is totally different. You cannot teach this stuff. Its a product of fertile soil.

Its like a most of todays lawyers. Sure they learned how to parrot the lines and provide the answers , but most fail the common sense tests of life.

Then they become politicians.

]mpower students and workers by creating nationally portable workforce skill credentials,”/p>

Translation: Federal control of government K-12 curriculum of all states. This curriculum will be heavy on pro-Marxist and hate-whitey dialectics.

- “[i]ncrease postsecondary education and training attainment rates,”/p>

Translation: Increase jobs and more money in the pork trough for "Big Education" and the Marxists who work in "Big Education"

[b]uild on the untapped potential of community colleges and two-year institutions.”...

Translation: Community colleges now serve the function of the high schools that my parents and I attended. This is one more way to delay adulthood for our youth, infantilize them further, subject them to even more intensive Marxist indoctrination, and increase money and jobs flowing to "big education" and Marxists who work there.

To better answer your question... as mentioned, entrepreuners are the product of fertile soils which are being polluted as we speak by Obama policies , confused, marxist crappola.

He and his radical marxist group are anti capitalist polluters who are polluting the jobs markets. They are forcing unemployment on America.

Worst part is he is hitting his black supporters the hardest.

I truly hope he does not force a “revolution” as that will accomplish nothing other than destroy America more than he already has.

I tell yah, Osama Bin Laden is green with envy for the damage Obama has done to this nation, the Western Free Nations and the Global Economy without firing a shot or using a boxcutter. Just a pen.
