I was saying today that most of our local news outlets virtually ignored the Pearl Harbor anniversary. As the generation who lived through it (and the Depression and WW II) pass away, there are fewer and fewer to keep the memories alive. Eventually, PH will become a distant memory (or no memory at all).
If Obama was President during WW2, we may very well being speaking another language right now...
Then again if Roosevelt hadn’t moved the battleships of the Pacific fleet to Pearl Harbor to send a “diplomatic signal” to the Japanese of our displeasure, the attack would have been unlikely to happen as well.
I think the attack would have happend anyway.
Those were the days when we had leadership. We don’t have that now.
The youngest members of the US armed forces at the time of Pearl Harbor are in their mid-80s today. I would guess another 15 years before we are down to the last few survivors. For another 30 years or so we may have Hawaiian civilians who witnessed the attacks still around. Of course it doesn’t do much good if no one pays them any attention.
