The Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking to buy two 20MM magazine fed rifles, suppressors, and four extra 20 round magazines. They must have the ammo already, or are looking for a different contractor.
Are they cracking down on street gangs from afar? Or, are they anticipating a major Al Qaeda offensive? And, suppressors too?

What is the significance of this?
The significance is defined by the answer to the question “Who is the expected/anticipated target of these rifles?”.
The picture is from the Anzio Ironworks Corporation site. This is the proposed supplier mentioned in the article.

FBI Engineering Research Facility, FBI Academy
Either somebody’s watched “Thunderbolt and Lightfoot” one too many times, or Lon Horiuchi wants something that leaves no evidence.

Indeed; think Ruby Ridge or Waco.
How big is a suppressor that will handle a 20mm muzzle blast?
lol It'd probably have to be the size of a 55gal drum!
The muzzle brake screws on and off. The suppressor is not all that big compared to the rifle. A can for a .50 BMG is about a foot long.
That’s entirely possible. Didn’t think of that. Alternately to be used to protect the jihadists in NY during their upcoming show-trials.
I would guess it’s for their H.R.T. for disabling heavily armored targets.
You never know what type of intel they have in their hands. Terrorists have used planes and trucks against us, why not heavy armored vehicles.
Imagine the damage that would do to a city.
Whatever they need them for the threat they see is very serious...
The only reason they would need this is to attack Americans. If the us were being attacked, the National Guard would be called and they already have this type of equipment.
Suppressors for 20mm rifles?
Do they make suppressors for .50 cal BMG, too?
Keep in mind that the FBI refers to American mothers and children as "terrorists" if they attend non-violent tea party protests.
Meanwhile, real terrorists like MAJ Hasan are free to murder and maim unarmed people by the dozens.
Makes perfect sense, doesn't it?
I was just shooting my brother’s Anzio Ironworks .50 BMG this weekend. Very accurate rifle.
The FBI is being prepared for shooting through/into heavily fortified areas that even a .50 cal cannot penetrate.
The suppressor indicates that this weapon system is only needed if the opposition is capable of locating the FBI sniper and returning fire.
If these rifles shoot the standard 20MM round, they've already probably got hundreds of millions of them.
