Normally....when one of the "elite' is caught with their hand in the till..the liberal crowd will ALL join in unison and sing songs like--"WWJD", or "he who is without sin.." or, we must show compassion"--and then rally around that person and protect them--and keep their wrongdoings hidden as much as possible.
So..WHY have they decided to abandon Tiger Woods??
Not that long ago...he was the "darling" of so many...a black man who rose to the top of the golf world...and seemed so "magical". At that time--NO ONE was allowed to question much of anything to do with him.
Now--he has been caught in an affair. Sure it is bad--and sure--many others do it. And therein lies the problem.
Many other of the elite have affairs too. Lettermen comes to mind. The elites did NOT throw him under the bus. I think he still has his sick show.
But now--if one just heard the talking heads and such-- but did not know who they were talking about --they might think that it is Rush, Sarah, Joe Wurzelbacker, Glen Beck or such--that is being trashed. But no...it it TIGER that the American pravda is now deserting.
I can only hazard to guess that "those in power" have decided he is NOT really on their side--and now--"let him get his". Possibly the inauguration events had a lot to do with that.
But I do wonder...why are they turning on their Tiger??
being chased by your wife, at 2 in the morning, while she is swinging a golf club just seems funny.
Of course I could repost my version.
About 1/10th of his net worth was earned through golfing, the rest from endorsements. He got the endorsement deals because he was perceived as being a role model and having outstanding character. If Lindsey Lohan falls from grace, well no one is surprised, but if Tiger Woods does, it’s a big deal to a lot of people, especially those who paid millions for endorsements that now may seem a bit tainted.
Good Gawd I am tempted to post my version of events.
Yes, but fools don’t compare well with Jack and he is trying to catch him. Yes, perception is important and Tiger’s is going downhill fast...
Uh, not quite. Actually, the old saw says, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."
I'm sure that's what you meant.
Just for future reference...
CA....
Sure he did - but I’ve seen it many times.
I grew up around a sport where I got to view alot of “stage parents”
Now I don’t know if Tiger’s dad fits into this category, because I’m not sure how he treated him in private.
So I’ve seen alot of parents who’ve played an enormous part in their kids lives - only to find out later their appoach can backfire.
I haven't made many comments on the Woods thing, but here's my take.
Woods has spent his career creating an image. This image has allowed him to amass $900,000,000 in celebrity endorsements. He has enjoyed the fruits of this. To a person like me, who doesn't pay much attention to celebrity endorsements one way or the other, it seems insane that a man should be able to amass that much money by endorsing products. However, it's not really any of my business, as Tiger has never forced me to pay for any of his products, and has never pried money out of my wallet against my will.
Here's the flip side of that. If he gets the profit of this irrational fascination with him, the flip side is that when he crashes into a fire hydrant and a telephone pole, there's also irrational interest in him from the other direction.
Woods chose this by creating his character. This kind of celebrity doesn't just happen. It's the result of marketing by a PR team that has a product and controls it very well. Much of the fascination with this is that dam breaking of the monumental facade that is the Tiger Woods money making machine.
As to David Letterman, well, was it really any surprise that he we boinking employees? I mean, look at Letterman, and imagine him saying, "Oh, I couldn't do that; it would be wrong." about anything. I can't do it. I can't imagine Letterman restraining himself from doing anything he felt like doing because his morality got in the way.
Tiger could have been a successful multi-millionaire player with a lower profile and more privacy if he had not employed the PR people to create his persona. It made him a billionaire, but it also created an unrealistic expectation from people about who he was as a man.
Wife- "Whats this in the Enquirer?"
Tiger- "Er, um, those jeans sure do make you look FAT!"
Not a good way to start the day.
Sometime in the afternoon Tiger was sitting on the couch, in the living room.
I read once that drinking was dangerous so I quit reading.
Well, while I think you are right on the “most Americans” will forgive him... It just should not happen. Unfortunately, most don’t care about morality these days and will excuse his behavior as just “something that anyone would do”... If we are going to make those kind of excuses, then there is really no limit to what we will accept.
He is a lousy father and husband and should be shamed as such!
Well, perhaps because “their Tiger” never accepted being labeled/co-opted by the race merchants. As I recall, he never accepted being absorbed by the Borg. He rather retained his actual racial identity, which is far to complex for me to understand.
According to the Woods Wiki, His father was “....of mixed African American (50 percent), Chinese (25 percent) and Native American (25 percent) ancestry. Kultida (née Punsawad), originally from Thailand, is of mixed Thai (50 percent), Chinese (25 percent), and Dutch (25 percent) ancestry. This makes Woods himself one-quarter Chinese, one-quarter Thai, one-quarter African American, one-eighth Native American, and one-eighth Dutch.[16] He refers to his ethnic make-up as Cablinasian (a syllabic abbreviation he coined from Caucasian, Black, (American) Indian, and Asian).[17]”
As I recall, he told the black activists to stuff it, when they tried to "adopt" him. Claimed only a minor part of his background was african-american, so he sought no affiliation. For good or ill, he is one of ours with respect to his golfing. He is a product of pure meritocracy, vs. racial tokenism.
Regarding his marital life, he is an IDIOT (emphasis added). With regard to golf, he is godlike. However, an idiot-savant is very, very good at one thing as well. It does not make him enlightened, moral or ethical. The fact that people seem surprised/disappointed/hurt because he is quite unworthy in an important human aspect is surprising to me. There's no reason that a professional virtuoso can't be running around in the same skin as a marital scumbag (happens all the time). It says more about the hero illusion that the general public tends to operate under. He is, after all, flesh. Highly paid and accomplished, but flesh.
I guess you miss the picture. He was covering up and kept it secret instead of calling off the relationship. He is in the same category as Roger Clemens as far as I concerned. At least David Letterman told the truth, did not mislead and profit from a squeaky clean image.
Where are the present media's Woodward & Bernstein who unraveled Nixon and Watergate???
Millions of _______Americans took up golf when Tiger won his first jacket. Millions of ______Americans were upset after 15 minutes trying golf, they quickly realized Tiger earned his experience through years of sweat and practice, practice, practice, and more practice. Millions of ______Americans threw Tiger under the bus. Millions of ______Americans hated his father who was not only an American hero, but worked for a living. Tiger is no phony or fraud on the golf course, I don’t remember him marrying golf, and I don’t care for reporters who love to stand on stepladders peering into bedrooms with large antenna trucks nearby. My heart is still out to those 4 police officers and their families in Washington, and thankfully, they got the bastard. Huckabee lost for a reason already.
Why don’t they cover Barry’s tryst with Larry Sinclair???
It’s a matter of ethics and morality - either he has it or he doesn’t. I’d say that he doesn’t and it does lower my opinion of him. Golf capability - no, after golf yes...
Yes, “old” and old fashioned and still like it. Not like today’s generation.
Please, if you have to ask, you have never been a father or need some advice from someone who has... Just ask his kids in about 15 years or so about his “fatherhood”.
I expect nothing but for him to make another billion dollars in the real world and continue his golfing expertise.
Did my respect for him fall - well of course.
