Even in the indoctrination of my university experience, I have always sensed that there was and is something wrong with the socialist/statist form of charity, which is illustrated ironically in the picture below:
Although the picture is comical, it is also deadly serious, for this is exactly what statist charity in essence represents. In the name of some Robin Hood sort of politics, the state robs the productive members of society, destroys wealth, and then has the audacity to call it "charity" or redistributive politics. If you disagree with such a system (I vehemently do), you are labeled as a cold-hearted Nazi and may even find yourself in prison. I have never understood what could possibly lead someone to believe that such a system of plunder and outright theft is warm-hearted or voluntary.
After having read Erich Fromm's Escape from Freedom, it is much clearer to me now where such a belief might originate. Fromm had an inkling of what could be going on psychologically in those who claim to be "spreading the wealth" for the good of the poor. There is a particular type of sadism that is separate from the one that wishes to inflict pain on others. This other kind can be characterized by a wish to help others. At first glance, such a concept seems contradictory. One type of sadism seeks to inflict pain; the other aims at helping others. However, if one thinks about what sadism represents (the desire or need to control others in a destructive or manipulative manner), then both sorts of sadism fit together. Someone under the influence of the positive type of sadism doesn't seek to help others out of any true feeling of charity, sympathy, or empathy, but out of a need to feel superior to the one being helped.

Interesting take. We used to call these people do gooders and crackpots. Now we call them Senators and Presidents. To see the madness all one has to do is look at congress.
This well explains the “calling” so many feel when they decide to “spread the gospel.”
That's not what Robin Hood did.
It is the same progression that has gone on for years, starting with the zero population growth and back to peasant agendas of the 1960’s. Don’t do stuff for yourself - I mean, take a look at the black community, and the non-immigrant illegal aliens. Two groups that used to be hard working, who are instead sitting on their arses.
Add in our youth who aren’t leaving home, because they’ve been told every step of the way that they’ll destroy the planet. Our reduced breeding that is putting the first world far behind the rest in population growth from within.
By destroying the largest economies, that of Europe, Japan and the United States, they are reducing the standard of living for everyone.
Does anyone remember the grand plans spoken of 30 years ago? Of turning the Sahara back into a swath of green? Of ending world hunger by taming huge rivers, and plowing the desert?
We have the ability to turn sea water into fresh, tap deep aquifiers that no one imagined, to even tame icebergs. A gigantic ice shelf calving would have been seen as an opportunity, now it’s a horror. We are the earth’s enemies. We walked on the moon, and then, just gave up. Sure, there were some bright spots - the internet for one, but even that become little more than one more media channel.
What we need is vision once again. The manifest destiny that powered our economic engine, that placed our economy into the powerhouse that dwarfed the economy of every other nation on the planet.
Global warming, if it existed, shouldn’t have made us fear, us cut back our work, but instead inspired us to new technologies and methods. Instead we build useless windfarms off the coast to slice to pieces migratory flocks of protected species, and participate in mandatory recycling programs like sheep.
Until we get our vision back, until we get out of this fog of doom that liberals spread like the most deadly malaise, we will continue to drift, go from fear to fear, mindless sheep for our liberal masters.

There is a need for many on the left to view world events in terms of an ordered sense of “justice” that plays itself out according to our actions.
This is a very nice, neat way to wrap up the universe and it gives them an theoretical path to attain the yearned for Utopiandream. A negative action brings about a negative reaction.

Interesting, thanks for posting. I have come to the same conclusions as your two main points: 1) liberals want power and control or they want to be controlled; and 2) they like to help others not out of sympathy but of a need to feel superior.
I have been trying to figure out their belief in global warming and you make an interesting point. I had decided that belief in global warming was all about group think and peer pressure and fear of being branded as something other than a true liberal if they were to question conventional wisdom. But, as you mentioned, it probably has something to do with their desire to “fix” the world. And, they probably like the idea of having control over the weather too.
Tribes are self-organizing systems, like puddles of water. Water can easily flow in, but it's harder to flow out.
So some scientists began the big lie because they wanted this or that agenda - you'd need to waterboard Mr. Mann to find out exactly. That was step #1. But other scientists got dragged into it also, and I think most did not suspect anything; they had little reason for suspicion at that time. So that was step #2. The tribe was formed. And then, when all the current data failed to fit the theory ... they declared the data wrong. That was a bit overboard, but many of conscripted scientists had to either go with the deception or to bury their careers. And so the lie continued. Since last week several of those lower rank scientists, "foot soldiers," as they define themselves, already published articles that seek to explain their inaction.
