Karl Rove: Barack Obama KILLS The Friday News Dump
WSJ/The Lid ^ | 11/18/09 | The Lid

Its a time-honored tradition, starting way before President Obama took office. Politicians break bad or embarrassing news (for them) late on a Friday afternoon or even better on a Saturday Night. The hope is the story will get very little play from reporters on their way home from a tough week, or from the weekend shift. The hope is that the Sunday News shows have already been booked to cover other topics and by Monday it will be old news.

For example when Director of Homeland Security announced that the President was going to grant amnesty to Illegal Aliens it was a Friday Afternoon, when he raised his 10-year budget deficit projection from $7.1 to $9 Trillion that too was on a Friday Afternoon.

Last Friday, the News Dump was the announcement that the terror trial of 9-11 planner KSM was being moved to a civilian court in the Big Apple. Unfortunately for the POTUS, the Friday News Dump doesn't always work. Karl Rove says its because the President refuses to leave "Campaign Mode:"

Why does the zero bother with a Friday news dump? It’s not like the state controlled media would dare to criticize the one.

“...Rove says its because the President refuses to leave “Campaign Mode:”

It’s true. IIRC Bill Clinton was rightfully accused as well of having never left campaign mode, and often his “campaigning” created problems for him as well.

There are so many similarities to the two misAdministrations, Clinton’s, and Obama’s. I’ve mentioned that several occasions, but never have I received any input back from fellow FReepers.

Clinton’s aggression was contained by the Republican juggernaut of ‘94. Let us pray for another in 2010.

There may be similarities between Clinton and Obama and the way they run their admins...but the Obama presidency should be called the “rehabilitation of Jimmy Carter Tour”.

By the time Obama hits the middle of his term, Jimmy Carter will look like a genius.

“By the time Obama hits the middle of his term, Jimmy Carter will look like a genius.”

Yes, I agree.

The mother of all news dumps is coming Thanksgiving weekend. No one will be paying attention from Wednesday at noon until the following Monday morning. Fir starts, I’m guessing Obama—or some petty administration official, to be more precise—will announce his Afghanistan strategy and troop levels. But I’m pretty sure it will be a jail break of unflattering news releases.

It seems that with most people getting their daily on the Internet every day iof the week, the Friday news dump is less of a big issue. The lame stream media is likely less of a factor in what gets legs and what doesn’t.l People might pay even more attention to the stories that break on weekends because they have more time to see and think about them.

Klinton was famous for the Friday news dump. I dont know if he invented it, but it was common practice with them.

Obama is well on his way to making Carter look competent by comparison.

You're right. The only difference I see is their political experience. Bubba spent a decade running Arkansas, which gave him much needed experience on how to make himself look good no matter what the situation and overall executive experience. Whereas Hussien with his 30 second secret resume, trots the globe stumbling and bumbling.

Bubba would've never allowed the release of a report changing the mammogram screening age during the health care debate.

“Bubba would’ve never allowed the release of a report changing the mammogram screening age during the health care debate.”

He was accused often of micro-managing wasn’t he. You’re right about that.

Yes, we should stop this stupid comparison. It just lulls people to go back to sleep again: Oh, it’s only Carter II.
