Now why are the traffic controllers constantly referring to this flight as 1529?? Is that the proper flight number or 1549??

So was it flight 1549 or 1529? ATC was calling it 1529.

The comment sounds like, technically, a violation of the "sterile cockpit" rule. I read somewhere about a flight years ago where one of the crew commented on the beautiful sunset, not noticing the runway incursion in front of them.

Anyway, great piloting in this case. It's frightening to watch their altitude drop so quickly. No way they could have made the NJ airport.
