No. There's been less than a dozen confirmed deaths as a result of the bird-flu, worldwide. Even on the low-side, estimates of this pandemic range into the thousands, perhaps ten-of-thousands.
I loathe when blog pimpers do nothing more than post salaciously headlines to drive traffic to their site. This flu pandemic isn't a repeat of the plague or 1918, but it's not without risk and is something that should be taken seriously.
If anything, I believe the media has underplayed the threat because of their savior's pathetic handling of the situation. We have people waiting for hours on end for an inconsistently available vaccination, this administration promised would be readily available by the time flu season hit. Here we are, with rationed supplies of the vaccine, but no media outcry. If Bush was in charge, people in the media would be screaming bloody murder.

Oh so true, I'm surprised he hasn't been blamed, yet. (or did I miss it?)
I believe the fear of the bird flu was hyped too much and as you say, there were few casualties.
This flu seems to be fatal to those with other illness'. Most of the deaths seem to have the added: patient had other illness/complications.
I have not seen a comparison of this flu, as a stand alone, compared to what we would consider a 'regular' flu.
