Now that the gubernatorial election is over, Republicans in Burlington, Ocean and Camden Counties are starting to focus on recruiting someone to take on freshman U.S. Rep. John Adler (D-Cherry Hill) next year.
There is a deep bench of potential candidates, but some Republicans have one in mind who could clear the field: Philadelphia Eagles legend Jon Runyan, a Mount Laurel resident.
Sources tell PolitickerNJ.com that Assemblywoman Dawn Addiego (R-Evesham) - who knows Runyan because their children attend school together - has talked to him about running. Runyan, who is not currently active in the NFL but has not retired, has not ruled out a run. It is unclear, however, how serious the prospect is.
Runyan will be back playing for the Eagles by the end of the season...
Tennessee Titan legend as well!!
I’d love to see this, although I’m from Pa., not NJ.
General info:
Incumbent Republican retired in 2008
Narrowly for Obama in 2008 (52-47)
Narrowly for Bush in 2004 (51-48)
For Gore in 2000 (54-45)
hh
This would work for me of course. Now for those who live in NJ, or are huge Iggle fans(or not,AGP!!)is this just conjecture or is he really thinking about it.
I reference the above post only cause he may come back and play this year....
Adler voted no on health care...Nancy let him I guess. Burlington County went like 52/48 for Christie over Corzine. Adler’s predecessor was a Republican. So yeah, I’d say the seat’s a tossup at this point.
As for Runyan...meh...sounds like they’re trying to find someone with name recognition instead of a smart, tough conservative who can capture the seat.
These players have to realize there is a life (and paycheck) after football.
Immediately after retirement from football is the time to do it. Let's hope.
*ping*
Adler voted against Pelosi-care, which shows he’s worried. I don’t know what to think about this candiday. At first, I thought it was a member of the musical group.
The former Eagles guitarist may force a primary against Runyun.
LOL
Well if he runs hopefully he won’t lose like Steelers legend Lynn Swann.
Oh and if he can still play might I suggest the Bears. Our O-line is putrid.
