State Policy Network Conference Updates
Publius Forum ^ | 11/05/09 | Warner Todd Huston

I attended the annual conference of the State Policy Network. This is a conservative, free market oriented group of think tanks from each state in the union. There were 500 participants this year, the biggest one ever.

We saw James O'Keefe (the ACORN prostitution video maker), Fred Barnes of the Weekly Standard and Fox News and a host of Tea Party activists and think tank operators.

I have to thank Americans for Tax Reform for sending me out to the beautiful The Grove resort in Ashville, North Carolina to attend this great event.

But I have to say one thing that this conference proved and it is something detrimental for the country. This was a 500 person conference where each participant spent no less than $1,000 each to attend, many spent far more. We have free market think tanks from every state here all trying to find ways to defeat the extreme Obama left. We have all this effort, all this money, all this time spent to defeat liberalism. While that is good because it needs to be done, the sad thing is that it HAS to be done in the first place. The fact that this conference gets bigger every year and that more and more people from across the country have to line up to fight the un-American left is sad!

On the likely assumption that Warner Todd Huston will check in on this thread, I write: Warner, I remember decades ago when the idea of a network of state, conservative think tanks was proposed. There were then about seven of such creatures.

I am delighted to know that there are now such think tanks in every state in the union. I'm sure this was a useful conference. Did you, perchance, see Jerry Agar there?

If you have any use for a national symbol of protest, feel free to use those in the first link, below.
