Crazy Nancy Pelosi: “We Won Last Night” …Lies Twice About NY-23 Race

November 4, 2009

Jim Hoft

They lost the Virginia gubanatorial race by 18 points in a state Barack Obama won by 6 points last year. They lost the New Jersey gubanatorial race by 4 points in a state Barack Obama won by 15 points last year.

But, facts don’t matter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi She rejoiced today saying, “We won last night.”

“From our perspective, we won last night,” the California Democrat told reporters during a Wednesday photo op. “We had one race that we were engaged in, it was in northern New York, it was a race where a Republican has held the seat since the Civil War.

And we won that seat. So, from our standpoint, no, a candidate was victorious who supports health care reform, and his remarks last night said this was a victory for health care reform and other initiatives for the American people.”

She’s still ready to ram that nationalized health care bill through the House this week.

UPDATE: 2 lies in 1 statement. As pointed out below. Democrat Bill Owens campaigned against the public option. Pelosi was lying.

And, Democrat Michael R. McNulty represented NY-23 from 1989-1993. But, it sounds better when you say “the first time since the Civil War.”

I looked further and I think the old 23rd may have been his before the redistricting of 94, however he has been in the same area for years no matter what it is called. He did not rep the current 23rd.

Someone needs to correct his own mistake -- McNulty was the rep for NY-21, not NY-23.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York's_23rd_congressional_district

NcNulty was 23rd district Representative until redistricting put him in the 21st district.

According to the Wikipedia article above, there were 16 other Democrats to hold the 23rd district seat since 1865.

technically she is correct in saying that the dems won last night. The picked up the seat from new york, plain and simple. All be it, they may have only won by a point, but they did win.

Hey Nancy,

Keep your laws off my BODY!

Hey Dems,

Why are you pushing so hard for the government that you feared would track the library books you checked out to have their hands on your medical records?

The 23rd district has been redistricted several times. I’m counting 17 Democrats that have served in this seat since the Civil War.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York%27s_23rd_congressional_district

Now of course the redistricting is the key factor here. Are you going to count people that only won in NY-23 without a redstricting?

It’s really impossible to do. The region has been redistricted 7 times since 1965. Given the fact that NY keeps losing population it will be redistricted again.

If this were a Senate seat that hadn’t gone D or R since reconstruction this might be a legitimate point. However House seats never have a true historical track records given census trends redistricting counties, partial counties etc.
