WH Political Director, Patrick Gaspard Behind Scozzafavas Owens Endorsement November, 2, 2009 nicedeb
Buried deep in a Washington Post profile of the low-key Patrick Gaspard, was this interesting tidbit:
Steeped in New York politics, he played a pivotal role in the effort over the weekend to persuade Republican State Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava to endorse the Democratic candidate in the special election in New Yorks 23rd Congressional District, two senior White House officials said Sunday. One senior official added that Gaspard was the air traffic controller of multiple parties as events in the district unfolded. Scozzafava, a rare Republican who who supports same-sex marriage and abortion rights, endorsed Bill Owens rather than the Conservative Party candidate two days ahead of Election Day, a major victory for Democrats in arguably the most closely watched contest in the country.
A Public Policy poll has Hoffman leading Owens in a two-way race: 54% 38%.
Some disturbing background on Gaspard, ACORNs man in the White House from Stanley Kurtz on his close ties to Bertha Lewis and ACORN, in case youre interested:
No doubt, some will dismiss the newly revealed connections between the Obama administration, Patrick Gaspard, Bertha Lewis, and ACORN as guilt by association. Yet it seems to me that the evidence points to something more significant than that. We are talking about a persistent and shared political-ideological alliance between President Obama and the complex of community, labor, and party organizations controlled by ACORN. (See especially Life of the New Party for more on New Party ideology.) Again, the Gaspard issue is new and needs further investigation and consideration. Yet preliminary indications are that the Gaspard-ACORN-Bertha Lewis-New Party-WFP-SEIU ties are significant, and tell us something disturbing about the political ideology and intentions of President Obama. In particular, the connection between Gaspard, Lewis, the New Party, and the Working Families Party ought to draw our attention back to what may ultimately be the most important Obama-ACORN tie of all, his time with Chicagos New Party.

Hat tip: Gateway Pundit, who notes:
Republican Rep. Darrell Issa suggested yesterday that the Obama White House offered Scozzafava favors for endorsing Bill Owens.
Scozzafava had already taped robocalls in support of Bill Owens by Sunday night. Her husband, a top union official, was in talks months ago with Democratic operatives about her switching parties.
Scozzafava took $1 million from the GOP for her campaign this year.
Politicians and strategists praise Patrick Gaspard highly, although he stays away from the limelight.
"Patrick is the best political mind of his generation in New York and maybe the nation," says Kevin Sheekey, who as Michael Bloomberg's right-hand-man has frequently worked and battled with Gaspard.
"I wouldn't dispute that," said David Axelrod, Obama's chief strategist and Gaspard's cohort on the campaign trail. When reminded that such a title could be bestowed on Axelrod himself, the strategist said he was "happy to cede that" to Gaspard.
The Washington Post, among others, has announced that a longtime labor operative of Barack Obama's, Patrick Gaspard, will be named Obama's White House political director.
Gaspard served as national political director for much of Obama's general election campaign and was named deputy director of personnel for the transition effort. Prior to his work with Obama, Gaspard was the lead political operative for the 1199 branch of the Service Employees International Union, a huge and hugely influential union representing health care workers in New York. He spent the 2004 general election as the national field director for America Coming Together.
Gaspard was featured prominently in Ryan Lizza's recent New Yorker piece detailing how Obama won. Of his job interview with the Illinois Senator, Gaspard recalled Obama saying: "I think that I'm a better speechwriter than my speechwriters. I know more about policies on any particular issue than my policy directors. And I'll tell you right now that I'm gonna think I'm a better political director than my political director."
Dede Scozzafava has had more attention than a know nothing politician deserves. She did the right thing by joining the Democrats, and I applaud her. If Republicans could run off all RINOs like Scozzafava so easily, we would have it made. People might actually be able to tell the difference between Democrats and Republicans.
Looks to me like Scuzzy’s endorsement of Owens gave Hoffman’s campaign a big boost.....

ACORNS IN THE WHITE HOUSE
(1) ACORN's man in the Obama White House is longtime ACORN operative Patrick Gaspard. He holds the title of White House political affairs director, the same title Karl Rove held in President Bush's White House. He's the Presidents fixer and the man who gets ACORN projects and money. Gaspard once worked for ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis.
(2) Patrick Gaspards brother Michael Gaspard works for The Advance Group. Michael Gaspard works for ACORNs registered lobbying organization and with ACORNs national spokesman Bertha Lewis. Michael apparently keeps a lower profile than his brother. He does not appear on lobbyist disclosures for The Advance Group NY State. Nonetheless, he works there. Ms. Lewiss contacts list confirms Michael Gaspards employment there.
(3) ACORN Shaun Donovan. Mr. Donovan is HUD Secy. Before that, Mr. Donovan was NYC Commissioner of Dept of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD)---where Donovan worked on affordable housing initiatives----projects right up ACORNs alley.
(4) ACORN Karine Jean-Pierre is WH liaison for Dept of Labor (headed by latino agitator Hilda Solis). Karine once worked for John Edwards (vertical or horizontal?). She left there to work for Cong Anthony Weiner, then became Barack Obamas regional political director.

ACORNS EVERYWHERE Senate Finance Committee Study
ACORN comprises a mind-boggling 94 different affiliates, that amounts to "a big shell game," a biting Senate Finance Committee study shows. The study, by the staff of Iowa Republican Charles Grassley, reveals four ACORN charity groups give more than half their revenue to taxable entities that engage in "impermissible lobbying and political activity." ACORN and its subsidiaries for decades have moved taxpayer money into their own pockets and into the left-wing Marxist machine.
Sen Charles Grassley's documents show leaders of ACORN community groups transferred several million dollars in charitable and government money-----meant for the poor---- to parts of the group that have political (and sometimes profit-making) missions.
Sen Grassley's documents indicate that ACORN's tax-exempt groups----along with its tangled web of allied organizations---- used more than half their charitable and public money in 2006 to pay other ACORN affiliates.

Just wondering.
Does Dede get the WH "favors" while she's in a vertical or horizontal position?
“Does Dede get the WH “favors” while she’s in a vertical or horizontal position? “
I still wonder if Obama hammered Olympia Snowe at that private WH meeting a few months ago.
You got something there.
Come to think of it, Snowe did look a trifle "worn out" when she exited the meeting.
I looked her up, Liz. Her website with her picture.
God Bless'er, but smart money would say vertical. LOL
