Companies in hock to Washington now have the equivalent of 535 new board members -- 100 U.S. senators and 435 House members.
Since the financial crisis broke, Congress has been acting like the board of USA Inc., invoking the infusion of taxpayer money to get banks to modify loans to constituents and to give more help to those in danger of foreclosure. Members have berated CEOs for their business practices and pushed for caps on executive pay. They have also pushed GM and Chrysler to reverse core decisions designed to cut costs, such as closing facilities and shuttering dealerships.

Excuse me, but every two-bit congressman and union official owns the company. What did you think would happen when you buy the UAW an auto company with fed funds? Hell, the two-bit congressman is the minority owner to the UAW’s majority ownership. GM Management (hand picked by the UAW) is complaining about being responsive to stockholders? Shoosh - this is rich.
GM whined for the government to run the company. They got their wish.
i am waiting for the contract to expire...i want to see the uaw negotiate with itself.....
Are there any “two bit Congressmen” left? I would have thought each one cost at least half a million to campaign.
BTW, which “two bit congressmen” was the writer thinking of? Did he give a definition as to how they qualified, or were these representatives named “two bit” by their constituents?
Because I’d bet every single one of them has a district full of voters who’d fight that characterization tooth and nail.
Who is John Galt anyway?
Who cares? Let the mob run their company however they want. As long as I don’t have to buy the government garbage, what goes on within the ownership of GM isn’t any of my business.
You are paying for this boondoggle.
“You are paying for this boondoggle.”
Yes we are. That’s why I refuse to spend a penny more on government cars. Call it my little effort to defund fascism. As for the squabbling between the union thugs and their Congressional enablers, let them have a shootout. At least I’d get a little entertainment for my tax dollars — actually my children’s and grand children’s tax dollars.
