Perhaps critical events of the third century may offer a few answers. Secular historical data, backed by biblical writings suggests that up to this point every religious institution honored the Seventh Day Sabbath – except Roman and Hellenistic Pagans. During the mid to latter part of the third century the Christian movement was spreading rapidly across the Roman Empire and Christians began to out number Pagans forcing certain pagan rituals, temples, and synagogues to become obsolete putting them in jeopardy of being destroyed. It was at this critical juncture that The Roman Emperor Constantine The Great, converted from Paganism to Catholicism/Christianity

Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days]:

Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Christ.

It mattered to God what day was the Sabbath. Do you have scripture to back up your claim that it does not matter what day? Also, people today, even if they say Sunday is the Lord’s day.....isn’t more like the Lord’s hour (one hour at church than off to the races).........

God Bless them, at least Christians in the past, (100 years ago) used to keep the whole day. They kept the wrong day in the right way.......

Except the fourth commandment, the seventh day Sabbath was given at creation. See Genesis. So it was never a “shadow” pointing to Christ. You are confusing the annuals sabbaths given to the Jews. The Seventh day Sabbath was “made for man” and instituted at creation.......thousands of years before any Jew. Christ upheld the Sabbath and it’s meaning everytime he was challenged on it.

He never changed it or abrogated it. He simply threw out the man made petty rules the Pharisees had made for it......but he never threw the baby out with the bathwater.......

And Peter says that one day with the LORD is as a thousand years.... So that means the 7th day of creation the Heavenly Father rested one day to Him, but a thousand years to us.

Sabbath means 'rest'. And the law of remembrance was given to the children of Israel/Jacob after they were lead out of bondage establishing the Heavenly Father's form of government. And there are twelve tribes not one.

Genesis 1:14 And God said, "Let there be light in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for sign, and for seasons, and for days, and years.

You think the Heavenly Father did not recognize the 'light' of the sun being the Light of the Son, even when this took place?

There are prophesies given in months and there are prophesies given in 'days'. The 'sun' is reliable to count days wherein the moon is not.

Except Jesus said he “made the sabbath for man” and in the Bible, throughout the Bible, the Seventh day is is a sanctified day, a literal 24 hour period, sanctified and hallowed to commemorate his creation.

This has nothing to do with God existing forever so a day is like a thousand years to him....that is talking about God’s everlasting presence....not the seventh day being a holy day he made for us......

You make a srong argument however, I think we give more credability to the teachings of Paul than the instructions of God. ...just a thought.

How refreshing! Someone who reads scripture and thinks about what it says. The fact that the question even needs to be asked (...still relevant or nailed to the cross?) indicates a lack of understanding of scripture on the part of the Church. We were taught that “God’s Law” was done away with and no longer relevant. So why obey it? Why obey man’s laws for that matter? And we wonder why our kids don’t go to church?

This was a great article full of historical evidence and fact. Anybody who studies history will know absolutely that modern Christianity today worships on Sunday and disregards the 4th commandment because of factors that have nothing to do with bible or the will of God.

walkin with Jesus, it doesnt matter as much what day you make your sabbath it matters more that you honor that day with worship in the lord

If you're walking with Jesus you're going to follow what Jesus does and obey Jesus. The sabbath of the Lord, Jesus's sabbath, is the 7th day and no other:

Exo 20:8 "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exo 20:9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
Exo 20:10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.
Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

My God, the Lord, Jesus Christ, claims the 7th day as his.

Lev 23:3 'Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work on it; it is the Sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings. The sabbath, of the Lord, Jesus Christ, is the 7th day.

Luk 6:5 And He said to them, "The Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath."

The Lord, Jesus Christ, claims ownership and lordship over his sabbath.

So IF you are walking with Jesus Christ and not observing HIS sabbath then you have strayed from Jesus Christ. You have taken your own path.

you people are still under Jewish Law ?

I'm under grace.

Which ones are you going to obey and which ones are you going to throw away ?

the one about stoning an adulteress to death, or the one about eating only fish with scales.

Are we keeping the scripture whaere jesus says "take no money for your preaching" ? or the old Testament tithe commands ? .....I thought so. thats why you won't find me in church with you blasphemers and sinners, either arguing about scripture or blindly following some Jim Jones wannabe,

see you at the bar

it would take me about an hour to go dust off the concordance and write a hermaneutic exposition on “Grace and the Sabbath”, with references to established historic doctrine, but I am 110% sure I could make the modern church look even more foolish than it already does, if I had my choice I would rather turn over the moneychangers tables in the temple

There were no Jews on the seventh day of creation when the first Sabbath was observed and instituted. There were no Jews at Mount Sinai when Moses brought down the Ten Commandments. There are lots of non-Jewish people today who observe the Sabbath. How is the Sabbath Jewish?

No, the Jewish religion has plenty of extra-scriptural rules and traditions.

I'm under grace.

As am I.

Which ones are you going to obey and which ones are you going to throw away ? the one about stoning an adulteress to death, or the one about eating only fish with scales.

Killing a person who committed adultery was a civil penalty applicable only in national Israel. Israel, when God formed it, was both a religion AND a civic government. God instituted penalties and rules for the civic government that can't be enforced under different governments and weren't enforced in governments that God's people lived under prior to the creation of Israel.

The food laws of the Lord God are different. The designations of clean and unclean animals was existent long before Israel was formed. Noah for example:

Gen 7:2 You shall take with you seven each of every clean animal, a male and his female; two each of animals that are unclean, a male and his female;

Are we keeping the scripture whaere jesus says "take no money for your preaching" ?

If organizations aren't then they're not following Christ. I would guess that most Christian organizations though pay ministers through the tithes and freewill offerings of members. They shouldn't be charging the general public though.
