From a patriotic reader in SoCal:
We stopped by our local Borders the other day and didnt find Obamanutz: A Cult Leader Takes the White House on the shelves. Not that we really expected to tho the store has plenty of pro-Obama books on full display. So we asked the staff if they could order it. Borders has always been very good about this and they always call as soon as your book comes in. Imagine my surprise when the customer service person told me they dont have the book in stock and they are not allowed to order it. He said he had no idea why they would be banned from ordering a particular book. I have a few theories. You might want to check into this. Just thought you would want to know that Borders is refusing to sell your book.

Ideas are only dangerous when you’re in the wrong...
At Cerritos Town Center’s Borders they have a Obama exhibit that adores his win of the Nobel Peace Prize.
It looks like a shrine.
Proof that the book is a shining gem of truth.
We are in the middle of a socialist dictatorship. Don’t even think for a second that this is still a free country.
They all have those freakin Obama shrines! It makes me sick.
Hadn’t even heard of this book until this thread. It isn’t online on borders either, however, they do have many anti-Obama books. Could it be because of the publisher, Hero’s Prose, LLC. It this a vanity press or ‘underground’ publisher? I can’t find any info on them. Choosing the right publisher can be life or death of a book getting out to the public.
What an ironic way to phrase that.....
That could indeed be a problem if it is a very small or vanity press.
However it says that the Borders clerks said they were ‘not allowed’ to order it. Need more info on that.
Ah, sir. You have detected the truth. We have about 43% of the population that have been bought off to convince. King Obama is a communists/dictator determined to convert America. He is doing a damn good job of just that.
If you mean vigorous debate and examination of ideas, I'm with you.
But history is full of wrong ideas that were dangerous, even to those who did not hold them.
I think the type of publisher has far more to do with it. When searching the online store for ‘Obama’, the first results were anti-Obama books by Malkin and Morris. If there was an agenda, it seems scrubbing the online site would be one of the first things.
“Not being allowed” may, again, have to do with the publisher. If the online store doesn’t carry it, they may not be allowed to order things through publishers they don’t stock. A quick search and I couldn’t find anything by Hero’s Prose or several other vanity press publishers I know about.
During the Bush/Clinton campaign, in my area, Borders had all the books putting Clinton in a good light in the windows and front of the store. I had to search for books on Bush. When I found them, I took them to the front and placed them on the table with the Clinton books. How soon they were put back I don’t know.
Seems to me Borders favors the liberals.
Per my thought, it does seem to be the publisher. They only work with the major houses, not vanity publishers that require self submission.

To get the book even considered, it has to be registered with “Books in Print”

Her book also isn’t registered with Baker & Taylor. She really needs to get a new publisher.
It is on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. And has an ISBN number.

Amazon and B&N both are pretty loose with their publishing standards- as long as you can get an ISBN (which almost anyone can) they will let you set up an online store. Borders seems to follow the older traditional model of going through Baker & Taylor and Books in Print to determine what to sell.
I’ve known many writers who have made the same mistake. These type of publishers are fine as long as you know what you are getting into. The key is to concentrate on the areas you know you can get distributed with.
What’s the old saying, never attribute to conspiracy what can be explained with incompetence (in this case the publisher not properly registering the book).
All the reviews on Amazon are highly positive, too. The cultists must not be onto it yet.
That said, if they don't want to sell it, they don't have to. Just like you don't need to shop there ever again.
It looks like the Books in Print is subscription only? I would have thought that it would list every book with an ISBN that was available.
So if a conservative can’t find a publisher and goes to a smaller house or self-publishes then some bookstores will not make that book available?
Another reason to order on-line and boycott Borders.
