TEXAS DEFENSE AND SPECIAL TEAMS DOMINATE COLORADO

Fourth quarter. The Colorado defense holds the Horns and punting team comes in. But Colorado fails to take advantage of their possession and punts.

But much to the delight of the Longhorn fans Shipley takes the punt return down field 74 yards for a TOUCHDOWN! Texas 31, Colorado 14.

“First of all, I want to give God the glory for the win tonight and for the opportunity to play,” Shipley said. “I’m having so much fun on that team right now because we have 10 guys out there that are just working their tails off to make those things go. When you have those guys sold out like that, it’s a lot of fun to be a part of it. You have to give those guys credit for making all the holes and it’s just a fun team to be on.”

Colorado brings in QB Tyler Hansen hoping to jump start their offense. But the Horns defense takes him down with play after play successfully driving Colorado back.

Last year's spoilers; Colorado were no match for The Texas Longhorns last night as McCoy, Shipley march headlong toward next week's classic Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

It was another great game for the Horns in their quest for the National Championship. Colorado played well in the first half, but the Horns adjusted and won by a decent margin. The Texas v. oklahoma game should be a good one next week.

Native Iowegians are forever grateful to Texas for giving us Hayden Fry who taught the Hawkeyes how to play football again. Fry also provided the Big Ten and Big 12 college ranks with no fewer than a half dozen excellent coaches who have carried his approach into the 21st century.
One of Hayden's rules was "play 60 minutes of football." They sure did last night in Iowa City.
