Michael Steele Attacks Obama Over Nobel Peace Prize.
The Washington Independent ^ | 10/9/2009 | David Weigel

Posted on 10/09/2009 8:04:56 AM PDT by Mozilla

The Republican National Committee has issued a political response to the president’s Nobel Peace Prize, blasting the Nobel Committee for denying the prize to unnamed “tireless advocates” and attacking the president’s domestic record. The quote, from RNC Chairman Michael Steele:

The real question Americans are asking is, “What has President Obama actually accomplished?” It is unfortunate that the president’s star power has outshined tireless advocates who have made real achievements working towards peace and human rights. One thing is certain — President Obama won’t be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action.

As far as the Nobel committee is concerned, Obama has accomplished not being Bush. Obama was nominated 2 weeks after his election, so this isn't even in response to his Chamberlain speeches.

The Democrat gets the Peace Prize
The Republican attacks him

I believe I'm getting the message the media is trying to beam into my head.

This is the same organization that denied the award to Ronald Reagan, even after he knocked down the Berlin Wall and freed half the globe from the slavery of Soviet communism.

All without firing a shot.

My advice to Steele would be to let the rest of the world carry the water on this one. People all over the place seem to think this is a joke. No sense making this a conservative or Republican generated issue.

Steele should know by now that the NPP has nothing whatsoever to do with peace advocacy. Yasser Arafat, the father of modern terrorism, won the “prize.” That should tell you all you need to know about it. Just to be nominated for that damn thing is an insult.

The Nobel Prize for Moving Into Your Office is an auspicious award, and I think a little respect is in order.

Perhaps you are right, but I thought it was The Nobel Prize for Teleprompter Reading.

Steele is at least a bonafide African American. Obama is a white raised biracial european-kenyan. No slavery or Jim Crow on his sperm donor father’s side.

Seriously? They nominated him two weeks after taking the White House for what? Gratuitous Platitudes such closing Gitmo(How’s that going?)

Pulling out of Iraq(We have a full standing Army in theater, still)

Fighting the good war in Afghanistan(Our boys are getting killed while you stand around saying “we need to decide on a strategy before we set our goal”. Hey, you actually set a goal and then a strategy to achieve it.)

Your vision of a world without nuclear weapons sounds Nobel but, is really just childish. (Never going to happen and you don’t mean it anyway. You just want people to feel good that you said it. Well, I don’t any nuclear weapons either. Can I share your Nobel Prize?)

Strengthening International Diplomacy? That is just so rich! He has been snubbed by Iran, used by Hugo Chavez, been called naive by France, Insulted our greatest ally Great Britain, flubbed the Olympics, Putin has had a few choice words about Obama, He has not signed one international agreement of any sort.

Where is the peace between Israel and the palestinians? Why are the palestinians mocking his award this very day, if he is so successful?

I ask you this, if Barry O. is being laughed at by the international community, for acting like a child, is the prize being awarded for being a clown?

For further background on Barrack’s accomplishments in 9 months see this Saturday Night Live skit skewering him for his lack of achievements:

http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/clips/obama-address/1163263/

Change we can believe in?

It’s becoming pretty clear most folks are taking this all with a HUGE block of salt. Even some 0-bot columnists are wondering why/how he won.

I think the award of the Peace Prize was a travesty, but it often has been a travesty in recent years. Steele should have kept quiet on this one.

Kim Jong Il and Mahmoud Ahmedinejad have the most reason to feel aggrieved--they've worked long and hard for the prize, by the Nobel Committee's standards, only to have it given to this newcomer.

I’ve got $5 that says, humble as he is what with being born in a manger and all, Obama gives a moving speech in Oslo and graciously turns down the award. It would be great political theater.

Of course there’s that whole narcissism thing to overcome, but he can do it. Yes he can.

Some Clintonista that I'd never heard of was on "Fox & Friends" this morning, gleeful at the way that the committee had put down the previous administration by its pick.

Pure BDS, just like when they picked Jimmy Carter. It just reinforces the idea that Obama is the black Jimmy Carter.

But at least Carter had to work for his prize--give his stamp of approvatl to elections stolen by dictators and that sort of thing.
