Blame it on Rio Not Obama
Powerline Blog ^ | 10/06/2009 | John Hinderaker

In a post from earlier this evening, John shows how various leftists have exaggerated the extent to which conservatives took pleasure from the fact that Chicago was not selected to host the 2016 Olympics. As John notes, the left is relying on a small number of examples.

Nonetheless, it's unfortunate that there are any examples at all. If a crowd at the "Defending the American Dream Summit" actually did applaud the announcement that Chicago finished last in the balloting, what possessed the members of that crowd to do it? The lefties have a point: since when do conservatives root for the U.S. to finish last

Too bad the zero didn’t have any of his friends from acorn on the Olympic committee. That’s the only way he’s won in the past.

Earlier today, IIRC, the IOC chairman said that if money were all, Chicago would have won.

Conservatives didn’t like the presumption, corruption and distraction from our troops in Afghanistan.

I never root for the US to finish last.

I don’t consider the Olympics to be anything to get excited about, though. Haven’t watched them in years, don’t pay attention to who competes. So if Chicago gets them, and has to lay out billions for the privilege, or if Rio gets them and is forced to lay out the billions, its hard to get too excited.

I did get annoyed that the O went to such lengths to get them. I didn’t notice Lula flying to Denmark to make a sales pitch, maybe he did and I didn’t pay attention. But then again, Chicago’s his adopted home town, so there is some sense to it. Its not a big issue to me one way or the other.

The O is a disaster for the US; his “stimulus” is destroying the dollar and his other efforts to manipulate the economy are a dangerous joke. So in that sense, yes, I want him to fail so the US can survive what remains of his four years. But the Olympics? Not my issue.

We didn’t take pleasure in Chicago not getting the Olympics as much as we did the Obamas being shown that just because they show up in a room the world does not stop spinning in its orbit.

After all of Obama’s bashing of the USA, why should the Olympic committee pick Chicago?

President Bush got Chicago to the IOC final four. It was Barack Hussein Obama’s mmmm, mmmm, mmmm, turn to take it to the winners circle.

He failed big time.

I don’t know who Lula is but if you are referring to the Prez of Brazil, he was in Denmark. The leader of every country with a city represented was there. Obama just got more attention for obvious reasons. I don’t have any problems with what Obama did here. There’s plenty of legit criticism of Obama and this isn’t it.

Nobody was cheering that the USA didn’t get the games, they were cheering the fact that the US taxpayers wouldn’t be picking up the tab. Usually, the host city pays, but Chicago was counting on US to pay. The Olympics are a financial disaster where ever they go, we don’t need that right now.

I wasn’t rooting for the US to lose. I was rooting against all those Obamy buddies who stood to make a fortune from it all...like Valerie Jarrett.

Funny how the America-last socialists twist words around.

They’re “pro-America” when it comes to supporting America’s government dominating its people, America’s politicians grabbing more authority over our lives and using our paychecks to give handouts to those they favor.

So of course, if we don’t support another layer of control, we’re hypocrites.

Last I checked, it was the American PEOPLE and the American DREAM we support (ie hard working productive entrepreneurs creating value in the one place that lets them start out anywhere and build themselves a life without being crushed by government burdens).

That’s patriotism, and so is rooting against massive graft enterprises (sending the Olympics to the most corrupt urban slum in the country), fighting politicians on every power grab, and starving the beast in Washington.

Actually, I’m blaming it on Chicago. Once a lovely city, now a crime infested tribal territory unfriendly, unclean, a very sad place.
