Bachmann focused her 15-minute speech on legislation authored by Paul in the House to audit the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve Transparency Act lists Bachmann as a co-sponsor, and the Congresswoman's call that the Federal Reserve, "Should be about protecting the soundness of our dollar, not inflating it, and not destroying it," drew chants of "End the Fed," in the crowd.
In her introduction of Representative Paul, Bachmann lauded the former GOP presidential candidate, who is now joined by Bachmann in his "Thursday Liberty Luncheon" in D.C. - a luncheon in which issues of monetary policy and getting more liberty "back into the hands of the people" are discussed.
Bachmann summarized Paul thusly: "I highly value our featured speaker tonight, Congressman Ron Paul...I've been just honored to know him...He truly is who he says he is. He's an awesome man."
While Bachmann's introduction applauded Paul for being "one of the leading advocates of freedom," for having "worked tirelessly for constitutional government," and for working for "low taxes," the Congressman from Texas did not exactly heed Bachman's statement that, "The topic we're here to discuss tonight - (is) sound monetary policy."
....
But perhaps the most shocking alliance between Paul and Bachmann was Paul's attack of U.S. (neo-conservative) foreign policy and the protection of its 'interests' around the globe. For example, Bachmann applauded the following critique by Paul regarding America's decision to put anti-ballistic missiles (long, medium, or short) at Russia's doorstep in Eastern Europe, for what he calls the "bogus" Iranian threat.

Dr. Ron Paul drives the bus that takes us all to school!
As much as I agree with many of the things Ron Paul says someone convince me that his new found popularity will not become a detriment to our chances of replacing the scourge in our House and Senate.

Damn... just when I was starting to develop a tiny bit more respect for Ron Paul, he goes and empties out his brains and fills his skull back up with his same old sh!t.
“imaginary” Iranian threat?
I am beginning to think RuPaul is just a plain old run-of-the-mill anti-Semite.
I sure hope Bachmann isn’t falling in behind this nutjob.
Just damn.
Well, think about it. Why do people hate Republicans and why did they got tossed from office over the last two cycles like water from a sinking rowboat? It was their big government foreign and domestic policy, deficit spending, and hypocrisy. So since the neoconservative and liberal wing (but I repeat myself) failed miserably, and since Obama’s socialist policies are becoming equally as destructive and hated, logically the answer is to go in the opposite direction. Now, Ron Paul isn’t the answer. Neither is Bachmann. But what they do is shift the debate and drag the party and base back to the principals they once had. Indeed, what the protests and so on have shown is that Americans want smaller government in their own lives as well as abroad, less spending so the future generations (IE their kids and grandkids) aren’t screwed, and to put the brakes on the growing police state. Some of us remember when cops were the good guys, and not simply the guys in black riot suits and automatic weapons who barge into the wrong houses, kill pets, or taze people at the first sign of dissent. America will be America again, but by returning to it’s roots.
That’s a fine line.
Paul doesn’t view Israel and the United States as being locked at the hip. Iran is obviously a threat to Israel, and vice versa, but not to us (at the moment, anyway.) Seems like most politicians in DC forgot which country they work for.
If you establish them on foreign land, perhaps. As a libertarian myself, my view is you sell the missile defense shields to these nations instead of using tax payer money to simply defend other nations who do little in return.
bachmann...isn’t this the same idiot who said she would slit her wrists in some kind of blood pact?
Once again...sometimes conservatives can be our own worst enemy
Keep tossing our own over board for any little old thing and conservatism will certainly be dead.
Newsflash: People aren’t perfect 100% of the time. Get over it.
Iran is not a threat to us, eh? Tell that to these Americans:
190 Americans who were killed in the Pan Am flight 103 bombing. We now have US intelligence documents laying the blame for the planning and financing of this on Iran.
241 American servicemen killed in the 1983 Beirut Marine barracks bombing. Iran’s role in this act of war has been well documented at this point, they were even found liable for it in an American civil court.
17 Americans, mostly diplomats, servicemen, and intelligence officers, killed in the 1983 Beirut embassy bombing. The anonymous caller who took credit for this bombing immediately after the blast himself admitted the Iranian involvement.
Now those are just a few of the big attacks. I won’t bother to post the many instances of Americans killed in smaller attacks committed by terrorist groups directed and financed by Iran, including all of the American servicemen and civillians killed in Iraq by Shi’ite militias backed and directed by Iran.
Even if you think this is not a threat large enough to take seriously at the moment, why should we just wait for them to obtain nuclear weapons so they can be a much larger threat to us?
I like to see conservativism and libertarianism increase but what is up with more women doing all the heavy lifting? have the polical men been neutered?
>bachmann...isnt this the same idiot who said she would slit her wrists in some kind of blood pact?
Yes, Bachmann loves to send the pinheads into meldown with her incendiary rhetoric.
That’s just one of the things I love about her.
Her winnowing effect of separating useless RINO chaff from real conservative wheat is also a wonderful attribute.
I’m saddened to have to include people who should know better in the former category.
OUCH. LGF, Frum, allahpundit, and the rest of the weasels better put some ice on that.
>As much as I agree with many of the things Ron Paul says someone convince me that his new found popularity will not become a detriment to our chances of replacing the scourge in our House and Senate.
Ron Paul supporters kicked off the Tea Party movement back in 2007 by setting a good example for others to emulate.
Our GOP superweapons, Palin and Bachmann, sound more like the good doctor every day, discussing the Federal Reserve, fiscal/monetary policy, and out of control spending/deficits.
I can't speak for Dr. Paul, but would guess he'd say that the main problem is with having OUR bases in OTHER countries.
I have no problem with interceptors in Alaska, but for me, Poland is a much different question. Especially since the Soviet threat is gone!
