Andy Williams, whose hits include Moon River and Music To Watch Girls By, told the Radio Times he thought Mr Obama wanted to turn the US into a "socialist country". The 81-year-old was a friend of the Kennedy family during the 1960s and was present at the Los Angeles rally where Robert F Kennedy was assassinated in 1968.
"I was very close to Bobby and he asked me to be a delegate for him when he ran for president," he said. "He knew about me being a Republican, but just laughed and said, 'Sign yourself in as a Democrat and then change back afterwards'. Sadly, I never got to do that.
Yep - Andy did those for at least twenty years. YouTube has plenty of clips from those old Christmas specials - Andy Williams, Bing Crosby, all the big names.
Check out the following link, which is especially good.
Sigh! He will always be among my happiest memories as a child and young woman. I sat out the late 60s and 70s in the embrace of his music. I cried when he married “THAT WOMAN”. His family (I can still see his mother and dad in my mind) were like my family. If he’d only waited, I’d have caught up to him someday. 21 years isn’t all that long to wait. ;-)
Great! The tide is turning. It’s very Dem here, too, and yet I see (and have myself placed a few) joker images.
Oh, gosh, his ski sweaters!!!! They were beautiful.
I know, I should drive down and see him (I live in St. Louis), but I don’t know, I guess in my schoolgirl heart, I didn’t want to see him grow old. He’ll always be my knight in the beautiful white suit and white bucks. I don’t want to see a bunch of showgirls, I just want to hear him sing, “A Fool Never Learns” again, or “It’s the Holiday Season”. We always get that album out and play it at Christmas. We’ve played it since we were young and raised our son to do the same. “So whoop-de-do and dickory dock and don’t forget to hang up your sock, ‘cause just exactly at twelve o’clock...” and we all finish with an off key, exuberant “HE’LL BE COMIN’ DOWN THE CHIMNEY DOWN!!!!!”
Sunday nights on NBC were “Bonanza” followed by Andy. A great singer, and (now we know) a great American.
Oh, my God, those eyes. THOSE EYES!
Exactly! OMG! Those wonderful nights with Sunday night dinner and Bonanza and Andy. I can still see the glow and feel the love. There was a lot of that at our house.
Dang, I may just have to buy one of his albums! I also have it in mind to make sure to see any of Jon Voight’s movies at the big screen, just to support him.
